What we don't like about Asus Memo Pad Hd7 (1GB + 8GB)

  • Plastic build feels inexpensive, creaky, and is prone to fingerprints
  • Sluggish performance and lag, especially when running 3D intensive games
  • Poor placement of physical buttons (Power/Volume) on the rear curve makes them hard to find
  • Cameras produce grainy, low-quality images and struggle significantly in low light
  • Highly reflective screen can be difficult to view in direct sunlight
  • Touchscreen can occasionally be unresponsive to swipes and gestures

Verdict

The ASUS MeMO Pad HD 7 (ME173X) is a budget-oriented 7-inch tablet featuring a 1280 x 800 resolution IPS display with 216 PPI and wide 170-degree viewing angles. This 8GB storage variant is powered by a 1.2 GHz MediaTek MT8125 quad-core processor paired with 1GB of DDR3 RAM and runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. Its primary characteristics include a lightweight 302g plastic chassis, a microSD slot expandable up to 32GB, and a battery providing up to 10 hours of life. Key pros are its vibrant, sharp HD screen, loud stereo speakers with SonicMaster technology, and excellent value for casual tasks like web browsing. However, it suffers from sluggish performance in demanding 3D games, a fingerprint-prone glossy build that can feel cheap, and downgraded cameras on the 8GB model, which features a 2MP rear and 0.3MP front sensor compared to the 16GB version's higher-resolution optics.
