What we like about Apple iPad 4 WiFi (1GB + 16GB)

  • Retina display with high pixel density (264 ppi) providing sharp text and vibrant images
  • Solid and premium build quality with a durable aluminum chassis
  • Strong battery life, often cited as reaching up to 10 hours of typical use
  • Smooth and fast performance at launch due to the dual-core A6X processor
  • Extensive library of high-quality tablet-optimised apps in the App Store
  • Improved FaceTime HD front-facing camera compared to previous models
  • Lightning connector is smaller and more durable than the previous 30-pin dock

What we don't like about Apple iPad 4 WiFi (1GB + 16GB)

  • Heavy and bulky design (652g) making it difficult to hold with one hand for long periods
  • Lack of modern software support, as it is limited to iOS 10.3.3 or 10.3.4
  • Slow charging times even with the provided 12W power adapter
  • Incompatibility with older 30-pin accessories without expensive adapters
  • No expandable storage via microSD card slot
  • Large bezels around the screen that give it an outdated appearance by modern standards
  • Propensity to run warm during intensive tasks like high-end gaming

Verdict

The Apple iPad 4th Generation WiFi (A1458) features a 9.7-inch Retina display with a 2048x1536 resolution at 264 ppi, powered by a dual-core 1.4GHz A6X chip with quad-core graphics and 1GB of LPDDR2 RAM. This 16GB model includes a 5MP iSight rear camera capable of 1080p video, a 1.2MP FaceTime HD front camera, and replaced the legacy 30-pin connector with the digital Lightning port. Main pros include its exceptionally sharp high-resolution screen, significantly improved CPU performance over its predecessor, and a reliable 10-hour battery life. However, notable cons include its lack of expandable storage via memory card slot, a relatively heavy build at 1.44 lbs compared to modern tablets, and a long charging time even with the upgraded 12W adapter.
