What we don't like about Xiaomi Redmi Watch 5 Active

  • Lacks an Always-On Display (AOD) and auto-brightness sensor due to its LCD panel.
  • No built-in GPS; it relies on a paired smartphone for accurate outdoor activity mapping.
  • Large physical footprint with thick bezels that can look bulky on smaller wrists.
  • Limited notification interaction; users can view alerts but cannot reply to messages directly from the watch.
  • The silicone strap design can be tedious or difficult to put on and secure properly.
  • Inconsistent sleep and step tracking accuracy compared to more expensive or dedicated fitness devices.
  • Incomplete software features, such as the inability to install third-party apps or play music directly from the watch.

Verdict

The Xiaomi Redmi Watch 5 Active is a budget-oriented smartwatch featuring a large 2.0-inch LCD display with 320 x 385 resolution and 500 nits of peak brightness. Encased in a zinc alloy frame with a 5ATM water resistance rating, it offers over 140 sports modes and comprehensive health monitoring, including 24-hour heart rate, SpO2, and stress tracking. Its standout characteristic is a 470mAh battery providing up to 18 days of typical use, alongside practical features like Bluetooth calling with dual-mic noise reduction and built-in Alexa. Main pros include its exceptional battery longevity, premium-feel metallic build, and clear calling quality for its price point. However, notable cons include the lack of an Always-On Display (AOD), no built-in GPS, and the presence of relatively thick screen bezels.
