What we like about Dreo Smart Humidifier HM717S 8L

  • Massive 8-liter water tank capacity that significantly reduces the frequency of refills.
  • Dual mist functionality offering both cool and quick-heating warm mist options.
  • High mist output up to 550 ml/h provides excellent coverage for large rooms up to 600 square feet.
  • Very quiet operation at just 28dB on low settings, making it ideal for bedrooms and nurseries.
  • Convenient top-fill design makes refilling and cleaning straightforward.
  • Robust smart features include Dreo app tracking, scheduling, and Alexa/Google Home voice control.
  • Dedicated aroma pad tray that diffuses essential oils effectively without clogging the main water tank.
  • Aesthetic built-in RGB ambient night light that can be dimmed or customized.

What we don't like about Dreo Smart Humidifier HM717S 8L

  • Consumes water at a rapid rate when operating continuously on the highest mist or warm mist settings.
  • Lacks Wi-Fi memory, requiring users to re-sync the device to the app when moved to a different room.
  • Requires regular descaling and deep cleaning to prevent mineral build-up and slime in the base.
  • Can leave behind fine white dust if used with hard tap water without a demineralization cartridge.
  • The overall footprint is relatively large and bulky compared to standard bedroom humidifiers.
  • Warm mist setting noticeably increases electricity consumption.

Verdict

The Dreo Smart Humidifier HM717S is a warm and cool hybrid ultrasonic humidifier featuring a massive 8-liter water tank, a powerful 550 mL/h maximum mist output, and coverage optimized for large spaces up to 600 square feet. Key characteristics and advantages include an impressive continuous runtime of up to 80 hours, an ultra-quiet sleep mode operating at just 28 dB, a 40-inch tall mist projection, an integrated aroma diffuser tray, precision humidistat controls (30% to 90% RH), and smart integration via the Dreo app, Amazon Alexa, or Google Home. On the downside, the unit can experience a slight delay in initial heating for warm mist, adds 15 to 20 dB of operational noise on its highest level, and lacks built-in Wi-Fi memory, meaning it requires a brief re-sync to the application whenever it is unplugged and moved to a new room.
