What owners say about the Garmin Index Sleep Monitor

Based on 41 owners sharing their experience in online comments

24%positive17%mixed59%negative

Owners like its comfortable sleep band, but missing data and unreliable sleep readings outweigh the convenience.

What owners dislike

  • Owners report sleep data sometimes never syncs, or gets discarded after a watch sync, and recovering it requires workarounds like pausing the phone connection.10
  • Owners say it sometimes records time awake in bed as sleep and shows long stretches of awake time that don't match reality.5
  • Owners say the overnight average heart rate doesn't appear on the sleep score tab, and health status shows no data after sleeping with it.4
  • Owners say the sync problem persisted for months and Garmin support gave only vague promises without a fix.4
  • Owners report the battery lasts about 4 to 5 days instead of the 7 days claimed, even with Bluetooth off.3

Third-party reviews

What we like about Garmin Index Sleep Monitor

  • At 14.5 g and 7.8 mm thick, it is light and slim.
  • The band is soft and comfortable to sleep in.
  • In tests, heart rate matched other devices within about one beat.
  • HRV, respiration rate and skin temperature are tracked.
  • There is no green light flicker to disturb you at night.
  • The 5 ATM rating means sweat and rain are no concern.

What we don't like about Garmin Index Sleep Monitor

  • It makes little sense without a Garmin watch.
  • It is not a 24/7 tracker, so it does not count steps.
  • Battery life is short with blood oxygen tracking on.
  • The vibration alarm is too weak to wake deep sleepers.
  • Sleep stage data is not always reliable.

Verdict

Worn on the upper arm at night, the Garmin Index Sleep Monitor is a band that only tracks sleep, not a full tracker. It weighs 14.5 g and is 7.8 mm thick, so it is soft and light enough to forget. Sleep, heart rate and blood oxygen data sync to a Garmin watch. HRV, respiration rate and skin temperature are tracked too, along with predictions for ovulation and start dates. The smart alarm works, but its vibration is weak for deep sleepers. The trade-off is that it tracks only sleep, with no step counting, no screen and no GPS. The battery is rated at 7 days, though blood oxygen tracking shortens it. It fits someone who already owns a Garmin watch and wants a comfortable, light band for sleep.
