What we like about Olympus XZ-10

  • Bright f/1.8-2.7 lens provides excellent low-light performance and shallow depth of field
  • Compact, pocket-sized, and sturdy design with good build quality
  • High-quality, detailed images, particularly at lower ISO settings
  • Versatile 5x optical zoom lens (26-130mm equivalent)
  • Customizable front control ring for adjusting aperture or shutter speed
  • Fast autofocus with capable macro mode (down to 1cm)
  • Good, creative art filters and color reproduction

What we don't like about Olympus XZ-10

  • No electronic viewfinder (EVF) makes shooting in bright sunlight difficult
  • Limited battery life, requiring frequent charging or a spare
  • 1080p video quality is mediocre with potential autofocus issues
  • Touchscreen functionality is limited (no pinch-to-zoom)
  • No built-in Wi-Fi or GPS
  • Auto White Balance (AWB) can be inconsistent

Verdict

The Olympus Stylus XZ-10 is a premium pocket-sized compact camera featuring a 12-megapixel 1/2.3-inch backlit CMOS sensor paired with an exceptionally bright f/1.8–2.7 i.ZUIKO 5x optical zoom lens (26–130mm equivalent). Powered by the TruePic VI processor, it offers full manual controls, RAW shooting, a customisable lens control ring, and sensor-shift image stabilisation, alongside a 3-inch 920k-dot touchscreen and 1080p Full HD video recording at 30fps. Its primary strengths include its ultra-portable metal build, high-speed video options (up to 120fps/240fps), and a built-in ND filter that enhances creative flexibility. However, its small sensor size can lead to visible image noise at high ISO settings (range 100–6400), and users may find the 240-shot battery life and lack of a built-in viewfinder or hotshoe to be limiting.
