What we like about Mchose G87

  • Exceptional value for money, often described as a 'sleeper' budget king
  • Massive 10,000mAh battery providing ultra-long wireless usage (up to 111 days claimed)
  • Impressive 'creamy' or 'thocky' stock typing sound right out of the box
  • Solid build quality with a premium feel, despite the plastic construction
  • Features a responsive volume wheel and a minimal, clean aesthetic
  • Convenient magnetic storage compartment for the wireless USB dongle
  • Pre-lubed stabilizers and switches for a smooth typing experience

What we don't like about Mchose G87

  • Lacks QMK/VIA support (unlike the higher-end GX87 series)
  • Plastic finish is a fingerprint magnet and may feel less premium than aluminum alternatives
  • Relatively heavy (approx. 1.15kg), which may hinder portability
  • Stock keycaps are not shine-through, making legends hard to see in the dark
  • RGB lighting is noted to be less bright compared to other models like the G75 Pro
  • Stabilizers may require minor tuning, specifically on larger keys like the backspace

Verdict

The Mchose G87 is a budget-friendly 80% TKL mechanical keyboard featuring a plastic construction, a 3-way zinc alloy volume knob, and a unique 10,000mAh battery offering up to 111 days of life. It utilizes a gasket-mount design with five layers of internal padding (Poron, IXPE, and PET) to provide a soft, creamy typing sound and comes equipped with double-shot PBT keycaps in an MDA or Cherry profile. Notable pros include versatile tri-mode connectivity (2.4GHz, Bluetooth, and USB-C) with a magnetic dongle storage slot, hot-swappable sockets for 3/5-pin switches, and an impressive ultra-low 2ms wireless latency. Potential cons include a relatively hefty weight for a plastic board, software that some users find less intuitive, and limited factory switch options compared to more premium aluminum alternatives.
