Keychron K3 QMK Wireless Review | 64 Data compared

The Keychron K3 is a compact, 75% low-profile wireless mechanical keyboard offering excellent portability and build quality suitable for office and mobile use. It features multi-device Bluetooth pairing, hot-swappable switch options, and clear shine-through backlighting, providing a snappy and pleasant typing experience. Drawbacks include poor ergonomics due to a lack of incline adjustments, no included wrist rest, and only decent latency for gaming. Additionally, the K3 lacks companion software for customization, suffers from a fast 10-minute auto-sleep timer, and has limited battery life with LEDs on.

The Keychron K3 Max is a feature-rich, wireless, low-profile mechanical keyboard priced at $99.99 that excels in versatility and customization. It accommodates up to five simultaneous device connections across Bluetooth, a 2.4GHz wireless USB-A dongle, and a wired USB-C cable. A physical switch allows users to instantly toggle between Mac/iOS and Windows layouts. The reviewer praises its highly portable design, highlighting that it eliminates the need for a wrist rest while remaining heavy enough to stay firmly planted on a desk. Additionally, its low-profile switches strike an ideal balance by offering satisfying key travel that avoids the overly shallow feel of a standard laptop membrane keyboard. Customization is another major strength, as the keyboard features hot-swappable switches, RGB lighting, and an intuitive software interface to program macro keys across three distinct layout layers. However, the review highlights two notable drawbacks to the user experience. First, the battery life is subpar compared to competing wireless options, lasting only five to six days on a single charge rather than multiple weeks, though it does recharge quickly. Second, the tight spacing of the...

The RTINGS review of the Keychron K Pro series, including the K2 Pro, K3 Pro, K4 Pro, and K8 Pro, characterizes these keyboards as versatile, well-built entry-level options for enthusiasts. Key advantages include robust build quality with PBT keycaps, sound-dampening foam, hot-swappable PCBs, and QMK/VIA software support, along with very low wired latency for gaming. Conversely, the review notes high wireless Bluetooth latency, limiting its suitability for competitive gaming to wired connections only. Other cons include non-shine-through keycaps that affect RGB visibility and a thick profile lacking an included wrist rest, which may lead to ergonomic fatigue.

The Keychron K3 Max Mechanical Keyboard Review by Jessica Bryson highlights a low-profile, 75% layout keyboard that offers a borderless and ultra-slim design. Priced at a reasonable £89, the layout foregoes a number pad but keeps a functional key row for quick shortcuts, fitting cleanly into modern office aesthetics. It features two-toned grey keys paired with a vibrant orange escape keycap, and it includes 3 adjustable angles to maximize ergonomic typing comfort during long sessions. For connectivity, the K3 Max is highly versatile: it can pair with up to 3 devices and seamlessly switch between Windows and macOS systems via a dedicated top toggle. Users can establish wireless connections through a plug-and-play 2.4GHz USB Type-A receiver or Bluetooth 5.1. Additionally, it packs 22 customizable light effects that can be cycled directly from a dedicated key on the keyboard. Regarding pros and cons, the reviewer highlights several standout advantages alongside a major limitation. The PCWorld review highlights the Keychron K3 Pro as a top-tier, low-profile mechanical keyboard, praising its 75% layout, exceptional typing experience, and high-end QMK/VIA software compatibility for customization. Its pros include a travel-friendly, hot-swappable design, excellent battery life when wireless, and premium build quality at a competitive price point. Cons are minor, primarily regarding a cluttered default layout, particularly the placement of the Delete and Print Screen keys, though this is remediable via software. Despite competition from the NuPhy Air75, the K3 Pro is deemed superior for its robust customization features.

Despite its strengths, the K3 Max suffers from notable design and functional drawbacks. A primary complaint is the complete lack of a built-in storage slot on the keyboard chassis for its highly compact 2.4GHz USB dongle, making the receiver easy to lose or cause scratches when thrown loose into a travel bag. The stock keycaps also present multiple issues: they lack shine-through transparency for the RGB backlighting, feature slightly uneven, "ransom-note" style typography due to the doubleshot moulding process, and only offer an orange accent for the Escape key while ignoring the ISO Enter key. Finally, the user experience falls short out of the box because VIA software fails to detect the keyboard over the wireless dongle and requires a manual JSON file side-load over USB to establish a configuration connection.

The Keychron K3 Version 3 is an ultra-slim, 75% layout low-profile mechanical keyboard designed as a comfortable middle ground for users transitioning from standard chiclet keyboards. This iteration introduces Keychron Low Profile 2.0 Mechanical switches (available in Red or Brown) and advanced acoustic foam that delivers a satisfying, classic typing sound while remaining quieter than traditional mechanical models. Major pros highlighted in the review include its sleek dual-tone gray aesthetics with larger, improved keycaps, wide compatibility across MacOS, iOS, Windows, and Android, and a solid overall build quality. Additionally, customization is highly accessible thanks to open-source QMK support and the user-friendly, web-based Keychron Launcher software for key mapping and macros. Despite these strengths, the review notes a couple of drawbacks to consider before purchasing. The primary con is the complete lack of 2.4GHz wireless connectivity via a USB dongle, forcing users to rely solely on Bluetooth or a wired USB-C connection. While the reviewer did not personally experience connectivity issues, Keychron's Bluetooth has historically faced criticism. Additionally, the tight spacing between the keys requires a brief learning curve for individuals...
