What we like about Microsoft Surface 2 WiFi (2GB + 32GB)

  • Sleek and sturdy magnesium alloy build quality
  • Vibrant 10.6-inch Full HD (1080p) display with wide viewing angles
  • Excellent battery life, typically lasting 9 to 11+ hours
  • Improved dual-position kickstand for better lap use
  • Snappy performance for web browsing and office tasks via the Tegra 4 processor
  • Includes full Microsoft Office 2013 RT for free

What we don't like about Microsoft Surface 2 WiFi (2GB + 32GB)

  • Windows RT operating system cannot run legacy desktop (.exe) programs
  • Limited selection of apps in the Windows Store compared to iOS or Android
  • Essential accessories like the Type Cover or Surface Pen are sold separately
  • Significant portion of internal storage (approx. 7GB) is taken up by the OS
  • Loose and bulky proprietary power connector
  • Occasional software bugs, such as the App Store failing to load or touchscreen unresponsiveness

Verdict

The Microsoft Surface 2 is a portable 10.6-inch tablet featuring a vibrant 1920 x 1080 Full HD display and a versatile dual-angle integrated kickstand. Driven by an NVIDIA Tegra 4 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, it offers a refined magnesium-alloy design that is both thinner and lighter than its predecessor. Key advantages include its crisp screen, full-size USB 3.0 port, microSD expansion, and pre-installed Microsoft Office RT 2013, making it a strong tool for light productivity. However, it is limited by the Windows RT 8.1 operating system, which cannot run standard desktop programs and has a restricted app selection compared to competitors.
