Average grade from independent test sites, magazines and video reviewers, 1–10.
How we count it
Grades: Each review's own score is converted to 1–10; without one, we grade the review ourselves. Big test sites count more, short reviews half as much as full tests. A video review counts half.
Score: The average grade is 80% of the review mark; the number of reviews is the other 20% (1 review = 5, the typical number in this category = 8, the most-reviewed model = 10).
Enough data: With few reviews, the average grade is pulled toward the typical grade of this category. No reviews yet: 7.2 for now.

Verdict
The Intel Core i5-11600KF is a solid gaming chip for Intel builds, with strong single-thread speed, but it runs hot and draws more power than the Core i9-10900K.

Third-party reviews

What we like about Intel Core i5-11600KF

  • A single-core score of 2466 makes lightly threaded work feel quick.
  • The unlocked multiplier lets you raise the clock speed.
  • Boost up to 4.9 GHz keeps single tasks responsive.
  • Configurable TDP lets you set the power limit.
  • Six cores and 12 threads handle multitasking well.
  • DDR4 memory at 3200 MHz supports up to 128 GB of capacity.

What we don't like about Intel Core i5-11600KF

  • Base power of 125 W and boost of 251 W run hot.
  • Boost power is held for only 56 seconds before it drops back.
  • No integrated graphics, so a graphics card is required.
  • No cooler is included in the box.
  • The 276 mm² die is large for this class of chip.

Verdict

A Geekbench 6 single-core score of 2466 is the main strength of the Intel Core i5-11600KF, and it makes this six-core chip feel quick in lightly threaded work. It is unlocked, so the clock can be pushed, and it boosts to 4.9 GHz from a 3.9 GHz base. Configurable TDP lets you set the power limit, which gives some control over heat. The downside is power. Base power is 125 W and boost reaches 251 W, so the cooler and power supply need to be strong. The die is 276 mm² and the chip has no integrated graphics, so a graphics card is needed. No cooler is included either. It suits a buyer who wants fast single-core performance, is comfortable with a big cooler, and does not need built-in graphics.
