What we like about Varmilo Chang E APT108

  • Stunning celestial aesthetic with intricate 'Chang'e' moon-themed artwork and lunar phase indicators
  • Premium build quality with a heavy, sturdy feel that remains stable on the desk
  • Exceptionally smooth typing experience, particularly with Varmilo's own EC V2 (Electro-Capacitive) switches
  • High-quality PBT dye-sub keycaps that are durable and resistant to shining over time
  • Whisper-quiet operation when equipped with Kailh Prestige Silent switches
  • Versatile tri-mode connectivity (Wired, Bluetooth 5.0, and 2.4GHz) on newer APT models

What we don't like about Varmilo Chang E APT108

  • Weak and unhelpful documentation; the included manual is often described as minimal or 'primitive'
  • Limited software support for customizing macros or remapping keys
  • Poor macOS compatibility for dedicated media and shortcut keys
  • Lacks a dedicated storage slot on the bottom of the case for the wireless USB dongle
  • High price point compared to other mechanical keyboards with similar features
  • North-facing LEDs can sometimes cause interference with specific aftermarket keycap profiles

Verdict

The Varmilo Chang'e APT108 is a full-size (108-key) mechanical keyboard featuring a celestial-themed design with PBT dye-sublimated keycaps and a hot-swappable PCB for easy switch customization. It offers versatile tri-mode connectivity—wired USB-C, Bluetooth 5.0, and 2.4GHz wireless—supporting up to five devices and powered by a 2500mAh battery providing approximately 100 hours of use with lights off. Key features include RGB backlighting, double-layer silicone sound dampening, a 1000Hz wired polling rate, and compatibility with Varmilo’s web-based driver for programming. Main pros include its premium build quality, artistic aesthetics inspired by Chinese culture, and flexible connection options, while notable cons include its high weight (approx. 1.53kg) and the requirement of the web driver for advanced customization.
