What we like about Keychron V6 Max QMK VIA Wireless

  • Versatile tri-mode connectivity (2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth 5.1, and USB-C wired)
  • Excellent typing feel provided by the gasket mount design and sound-absorbing foam layers
  • High level of customization through hot-swappable switches and QMK/VIA support
  • Solid build quality for a plastic chassis, including double-shot PBT keycaps and screw-in stabilizers
  • Good value for money compared to premium all-aluminum alternatives like the Q-series
  • Long battery life (up to 300 hours with backlighting off)
  • Dedicated volume control knob that is tactile and programmable

What we don't like about Keychron V6 Max QMK VIA Wireless

  • Significant reports of quality control issues, including 'chatter' (double keypresses) or dead keys after a few months
  • Difficult warranty and support process, often requiring users to perform their own repairs (e.g., resoldering)
  • South-facing RGB LEDs do not illuminate legends well on standard shine-through keycaps
  • Unconventional placement of the volume knob is reported as awkward by some users
  • Large and heavy footprint (approx. 1.7 kg) makes it poorly suited for travel or small desks
  • VIA software interface can be 'janky' or difficult to set up for beginners
  • Default OSA profile keycaps may cause forearm fatigue for some users due to their height

Verdict

The Keychron V6 Max is a full-size (100%) wireless mechanical keyboard featuring a gasket mount design, double-shot OSA PBT keycaps, and pre-lubed Gateron Jupiter switches for a refined typing experience. It offers tri-mode connectivity (2.4 GHz, Bluetooth 5.1, and USB-C) with a 1000 Hz polling rate on wireless/wired modes, full QMK/VIA programmability, and hot-swappable PCB support. Main pros include its versatile connectivity with dual 2.4 GHz receivers (Type-C and Type-A), stable screw-in stabilizers, and high customization potential at an accessible price. However, its lightweight ABS plastic chassis may lack a premium metal feel, and its large 1.7 kg footprint makes it less portable and better suited for permanent desk setups.
