Summary of the review

Deco Fun XS review - cheap, but enough - Draw Your Weapon

The XPPEN Deco Fun XS is an ultra-affordable, entry-level drawing tablet that offers essential digital art functionality for beginners on a tight budget. Priced around $30 USD, this highly portable device measures approximately 18 x 13 cm with a 4.8" x 3" active drawing area. It features a battery-free P01 stylus providing 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity, a USB-C connection port, and multi-platform compatibility covering Windows, MacOS, Linux, Chrome OS, and Android. The reviewer notes that its lightweight, compact design makes it exceptionally easy to throw into a small bag to pair with a smartphone for mobile drawing, note-taking, or playing OSU. However, the tablet’s ultra-compact footprint introduces several notable compromises. The primary downsides are its lack of express keys and absence of pen tilt functionality, which is only available on the larger S and L models. Furthermore, using such a small active area on larger monitors can make tight, detailed linework difficult because minor physical hand movements cause huge cursor jumps on screen. This cramped space can also induce wrist strain during long sessions. Additionally, Android users will need...

Deco Fun Series - XP Pen Tablet Review // Best Budget Pen Tablet?

The XP-Pen Deco Fun series offers three budget-friendly sizes (XS, S, and L) available in four colors, making it highly suitable for beginners, digital art students, and professionals looking to replace a standard mouse. The reviewer notes that the unboxing package is simple but effective, coming complete with a battery-free stylus, ten replacement nibs, a pen clipper, and a USB-C cable. Setting up the device is exceptionally straightforward, requiring a quick driver download to unlock customization for the stylus buttons and full-screen cursor access. During testing with Photoshop, the tablet performed smoothly with highly responsive pressure sensitivity, accurate opacity scaling, and zero stroke delay—even when using the ultra-compact XS model. Beyond digital illustration, the series adds versatility by bundling free interactive learning software and functioning well for remote meetings, document signing, and gaming. Key Pros and Cons Cons: The extra-small (XS) variant does not support the 60-degree pen tilt functionality found on the Small and Large models; the active drawing area on the XS is quite restricted; and the packaging boxes may arrive slightly bent during shipment.

Summary of the review

Review and test of the XPPen Deco Fun drawing tablet range (XS, S and L)

The XP-PEN Deco Fun is a budget-friendly range of screenless drawing tablets that offers an excellent price-to-performance ratio, making it highly recommended for beginners, children, and professionals needing a portable secondary device. The lineup is highly versatile, featuring compatibility across Android, Chrome OS, Linux, Windows, and Mac OS, and it works seamlessly with major creative and remote-learning software. Key technical highlights include a plug-and-play setup via a single USB-C port, 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity, and a battery-free passive stylus that shares cross-compatibility with other premium XP-PEN models. Users can choose from three sizes (XS, S, and L) and four distinct colours: classic black, space blue, apple green, and carmine red. The review highlights several distinct advantages and a few notable limitations of the series. On the positive side, the screenless design promotes a healthier, upright working posture since your eyes remain fixed on the computer monitor rather than hunched over a screen. The tablets are highly durable, extremely affordable—with the smallest model costing under €30—and the XS version is uniquely portable due to its ability to connect directly to...

XP-PEN Deco Fun Graphics Tablets

Here is a summary of the XP-PEN Deco Fun graphics tablet review: The author tests two sizes of the XP-PEN Deco Fun graphics tablet (the "pocket-sized" XS and the larger L model) using Windows, Android, and a Raspberry Pi 400. On Windows and Android, the tablets work well with software like GIMP and Krita, accurately capturing 8,192 levels of pressure to change line width and opacity. Key advantages include an affordable price, highly precise drawings with a 5080 LPI resolution, and a battery-free passive stylus that comes with 10 replacement nibs. The reviewer also notes a strange quirk where the smaller XS model unexpectedly draws more power (67 mA) than the larger L model (42 mA) when running on battery-powered mobile devices. However, the reviewer highlights several drawbacks to consider before buying. Setting up the free bundled software, ArtRage Lite, is an annoying "obstacle course" that requires making accounts on multiple websites and manually registering serial numbers. Android users are limited because the tablet only works in vertical mode. Furthermore, the tablet has poor driver support on the Raspberry Pi;...

Deco Fun Graphics Tablet | Reviews with Art

The standout pros highlighted by the reviewer are its exceptional value for money, natural movement, and highly reliable accuracy, pressure sensitivity, and tilt recognition that easily match higher-end, more expensive models. Conversely, the main cons include the tendency for brighter casing colours (like carmine red and apple green) to get dirty easily, the potential workflow limitations caused by the small canvas sizes of the XS and S models, and a slight internal movement in the pen nib when pressure is applied. Ultimately, the reviewer highly recommends the largest (L) model for static home or office environments to avoid size limitations, concluding that its overall price-to-quality ratio is unbeatable.

Summary of the review

Deco Fun XS Review - cheap, but decent", "Deco Fun XS Review - cheap, but good enough

The XPPen Deco Fun XS drawing tablet is a highly compact, budget-friendly device retailing around $30 USD, tailored for beginner digital artists and portable workflows. It features a 4.8" x 3" active area, a battery-free P01 stylus boasting 8,192 pressure levels, and reliable out-of-the-box compatibility with operating systems like Windows, macOS, Android, and Linux. Key advantages highlighted in the review include its extreme portability for on-the-go drawing with smartphones, zero pen responsiveness lag, and a customizable "Precision Mode" via the driver software to compensate for its small size on large monitors. Furthermore, it functions perfectly across industry-standard digital applications such as Clip Studio Paint, Krita, Magma, and Blender. However, its ultra-cheap price point dictates several design and functionality sacrifices. The tablet completely lacks built-in physical express shortcut keys, and unlike its larger "Small" and "Large" siblings, the XS variant entirely lacks pen tilt functionality. Users connecting to Android mobile devices will also face slight canvas geometric distortions (like circles stretching into ovals) due to aspect ratio mismatches, and they must buy a USB OTG adapter separately since none are packaged...

Summary of the review

XP-Pen Deco Fun Review

The XP-Pen Deco Fun L (Large) is reviewed as a highly affordable, compact digital drawing tablet priced under $50, making it an excellent budget-friendly entry point for beginner and intermediate digital artists. Roughly the size of an A4 piece of paper, it maximizes its tactile active drawing area to save valuable desk space while delivering a responsive, pen-and-paper feel that works smoothly on both laptops and 4K monitors. A standout feature is its battery-free electromagnetic stylus, which requires no charging and tracks accurately across major creative programs like Photoshop, Krita, and MyPaint. Key pros highlighted include its smooth starting surface, wide operating system compatibility (Windows and Mac OS), reliable driver software, and the inclusion of ten replacement pen nibs that ensure long-term usability. However, the tablet comes with a few distinct drawbacks. The most notable con is its lack of surface durability; repeated sketching and pressing can lead to prominent scuffs and a scratchy drawing texture after just a few hours of use, though this does not impact actual pen sensitivity. Additionally, the included one-meter USB cable may be too...

What we like about XP Pen Deco Fun XS

Highly affordable and offers excellent value for the price
Very compact and portable, making it easy to carry in a small bag or even a jacket pocket
Simple 'plug-and-play' setup with easy driver installation on Windows and Mac
Compatible with a wide range of devices including Android phones, Chromebooks, and Linux
Good pressure sensitivity (8192 levels) which is suitable for beginners and casual sketches
Battery-free pen that doesn't require charging
Effective for specific tasks like playing Osu!, digital signatures, and note-taking

What we don't like about XP Pen Deco Fun XS

Small active drawing area (4.8 x 3 inches) can feel restrictive for detailed artwork or large monitors
Lacks tilt sensitivity, a feature present in the larger 'S' and 'L' versions of the same series
No built-in shortcut/express keys on the tablet itself
Requires a separate purchase for a USB OTG adapter to connect to most Android phones
The pen is lightweight and can feel somewhat 'cheap' or less substantial in hand
Occasional driver stability issues reported by some users on specific operating systems
The tablet surface can be somewhat slippery, which may affect control without a drawing glove

Verdict

The XP-Pen Deco Fun XS is an ultra-portable, entry-level drawing tablet featuring a 4.8 x 3-inch active area, 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity, and a 5080 LPI resolution. Available in four vibrant colors, it includes a battery-free P01 stylus with two customisable buttons and offers wide compatibility across Windows, macOS, Linux, Chrome OS, and Android devices via a USB-C connection. Its primary advantages are its extreme portability, high pressure sensitivity for natural strokes, and plug-and-play simplicity for tasks like OSU! gameplay, digital signatures, and remote learning. However, it lacks shortcut keys on the tablet itself, does not support pen tilt functionality unlike the larger models in the series, and the very small surface area can lead to wrist fatigue or disproportionately large cursor movements on high-resolution monitors.
