🎬 Budget King or Compromise? The 2024 GoPro Hero arrives as a highly streamlined, budget-friendly entry-level action camera priced at $199.99 / £199.99, which is exactly half the price of the flagship Hero 13 Black. Weighing a mere 86g, this rugged and ultra-compact shooter is waterproof up to 5 meters without an external case and features a helpful rear LCD touchscreen alongside a remarkably long-lasting battery that can record continuous 4K/30p video for up to 80 minutes. Its bare-bones design offers maximum simplicity with only two physical buttons and precise voice control integration, making it a highly accessible choice for children or risky environments where losing an expensive device is a major concern. However, the attractive price point demands significant compromises in overall performance and customisation. The camera suffers from highly disappointing image quality that yields soft, dull, 8-bit footage capped at a 50Mbps bitrate, showing significant visual noise in low-light conditions. It is restricted to just three rigid shooting modes—Video, Photo, and Slo-Mo—with absolutely no advanced features like time-lapse, burst photography, or log color profiles. Furthermore, users must contend...

The GoPro Hero (2024) is a highly compact, budget-friendly action camera designed for basic, user-friendly recording, though it lacks the advanced versatility of higher-end models. On the positive side, its remarkably small frame (1.9 by 2.2 by 1.2 inches) and light weight (3.0 ounces) make it an excellent choice for helmet or chest mounting. It is built ruggedly with a metal frame and boasts a waterproof rating down to 16 feet without requiring an external housing. Performance-wise, it records clean, vibrant 4K30 video and handles heat exceptionally well, successfully capturing a 100-minute clip without overheating during testing. Additionally, it features a functional 1.8-inch rear touch screen, voice control capabilities, and a firmware update (version 1.20) that effectively fixes an earlier battery-drain defect. However, the camera cuts several notable corners that hinder its overall workflow and creative capabilities. The most significant cons include a fixed ultra-wide lens that suffers from severe fish-eye distortion and a total lack of in-camera stabilization. To get smooth footage, users must stabilize clips afterward using the mobile Quik app or pay for a GoPro Premium subscription...

The GoPro Hero (2024) is a stripped-back, budget-friendly action camera retailing at $199, designed specifically for no-frills buyers and users needing a ultra-compact device for tight mounting spaces. Its standout pros include its remarkably small size and 3-ounce weight, making it incredibly easy to mount on handlebars or helmets without feeling cumbersome. It delivers high-quality, sharp 4K/30p video with vibrant, saturated colours that look naturally bold. Additionally, it boasts excellent thermal performance and an impressive battery life of 1 hour and 43 minutes during continuous 4K recording without overheating, even though the 1,255mAh battery is built-in and cannot be swapped out mid-shoot. The camera also pairs well with the polished GoPro Quik app, which provides smooth, effective footage stabilization and easy remote control. However, the camera's minimalist design introduces major cons that make it a highly compromised device. Crucially, it lacks in-camera image stabilization, forcing users to manually process and edit all footage through the Quik app before it looks smooth. The hardware interface is equally frustrating; it features a single, highly laggy 1.76-inch rear screen, and its physical buttons...

The GoPro HERO (2024) is a highly streamlined, budget-friendly action camera designed specifically for beginners who want a simple, fuss-free filming experience. Weighing just 86g, this ultra-compact device features a user-friendly 1.76-inch full-colour rear touchscreen, a rugged design that is waterproof down to 5 metres (16 feet) without an extra housing, and a long-lasting, built-in Enduro battery. It also features a convenient interchangeable and water-repelling lens cover, making it easy to replace if scratched. It delivers excellent image quality, tone, and colour in its final footage, making it a solid, reliable secondary camera for capturing alternative angles. However, its extreme simplicity means that the settings are highly restrictive for experienced users. The camera lacks standard "Pro" features like ProTune and limits shooting resolutions to just 4K at 30fps, 2.7K at 60fps, or 12MP stills. A major drawback is that HyperSmooth electronic image stabilisation is not processed directly in-camera; instead, it must be applied afterward through the Quik mobile app, which adds extra processing time. Additionally, because the battery is fully integrated into the chassis, the camera cannot be used if...

The 2024 standard GoPro Hero delivers a fast and robust user experience powered by a new GP3 processor, boasting a boot time under 2 seconds and a significantly reduced processing lag. Its hardware features a lightweight 126-gram frame with a matte-finished rubber exterior, a bright 2-inch rear touchscreen, and a front-facing color display. A major design highlight is the new dual-mounting system that pairs magnetic mounting with traditional folding fingers, allowing creators to quickly frame and shoot content in optimal aspect ratios for platforms like TikTok and YouTube. For performance, the camera shines with HyperSmooth 6.0 stabilization for fluid footage, 10-meter waterproofing without a case, an improved three-microphone array to minimize wind noise, and a battery life that supports roughly 85 minutes of continuous 4K recording. Despite these strengths, the review notes a couple of drawbacks to consider. The primary con is the $350 price tag, which remains relatively expensive considering it is not GoPro's top-tier, flagship model. Additionally, the value of upgrading is highly dependent on your current gear; while users coming from a Hero 9 or older will...

The PCMag review rates the 2024 GoPro Hero 3.0 out of 5 stars, describing it as a highly compact, lightweight, and waterproof (up to 16 feet) entry-level action camera that avoids the overheating issues of previous small models. It features a 1.8-inch rear touch screen and captures 4K video at 30 fps, making it a viable, budget-friendly option for casual users looking for a simple, rugged camera for helmet mounting. However, the camera lacks in-camera image stabilization, forcing users to rely on the GoPro Quik app for post-processing to correct footage. Further limitations noted by PCMag include a fixed, ultra-wide lens with significant fisheye distortion, restricted frame rates, lack of advanced features like HDR, and the need for a subscription for editing tools.

The GoPro Hero (2024) is a ultra-lightweight, budget-friendly action camera weighing just 86 grams, making it roughly half the price and size of the flagship Hero 13 Black. It features a simplified, rectangular design with a functional 1.76-inch rear touchscreen, folding mounting grips, and a sealed door for its USB-C and MicroSD slots. However, to achieve this compact footprint, GoPro drastically stripped down the features list, offering only video, photo, and slow-motion modes while completely removing common tools like timelapse. The review highlights distinct advantages, including excellent suitability for helmet mounts, decent battery life compared to small competitors, and a fast, responsive touchscreen menu. On the downside, the camera suffers from notable compromises: it lacks a microphone input, caps video capture at an underwhelming 4K at 30fps (rather than 60fps), has weaker image stabilization than premium models, and forces users to rely heavily on the app for adjustments. Ultimately, the image quality is only "OK" and struggles heavily in low-light settings due to a slashed 50mbps video bitrate, making it best reserved for daytime users prioritizing physical size over advanced...

The GoPro HERO (2024) is a highly compact, budget-friendly action camera designed as a simplified, entry-level alternative to the premium Hero 13 Black. Weighing just 86 grams and built at roughly half the size of its flagship sibling, it features a rugged design, intuitive two-button controls, a 1.76-inch rear touch LCD, and support for hands-free voice commands. It delivers solid performance for beginners, capturing 4K video at 30 fps and basic slow-motion clips at 2.7K at 60 fps. Additionally, it boasts impressive thermal management and a strong battery life, capable of recording continuously at its maximum 4K resolution for 75 minutes without overheating. However, its lower price point requires several functional compromises, including a maximum frame rate capped at 30 fps for 4K video and the total omission of a timelapse feature. The camera also lacks on-board electronic image stabilisation, meaning users must manually offload and export their footage through the GoPro Quik smartphone app to permanently stabilise the video. Furthermore, the device features a non-removable 1,255mAh Enduro battery that cannot be swapped on the go, uses basic finger mounts...

The GoPro Hero (2024) is a highly compact, budget-friendly action camera retailing around £201.36 ($199.99), designed primarily for casual, on-body mounting adventures like helmet or chest rigging. Weighing just 3.0 ounces and measuring 1.9 by 2.2 by 1.2 inches, it is noticeably smaller and lighter than the mainline Hero13 Black. Its durable metal frame acts as a built-in heat sink, successfully preventing overheating and allowing the camera to record clear, colorful 4K30 video for up to 100 minutes continuously on its non-swappable internal battery. Additionally, it features a rugged build that is waterproof down to 16 feet without an external housing and offers a user-friendly 1.8-inch rear touch screen alongside smartphone controls via the Quik app. However, the reviewer notes that the camera cuts too many corners to achieve its low price point, limiting its overall creative versatility. A major drawback is the lack of built-in, in-camera stabilization; smooth footage is heavily dependent on a paid GoPro Premium subscription ($24.99 for the first year) for server-side cloud stabilization, creating a messy workflow for desktop video editors. The camera is also...
