JBL Live 460NC Review | 93 Data compared

The JBL Live 460NC headphones offer very good sound quality with deep, impactful bass and excellent active noise reduction, while boasting a 40-hour battery life with ANC enabled. Featuring a warm sound signature, they also include app compatibility for tonal adjustments and deliver solid overall performance. However, the bass can be slightly boomy and dominant, occasionally crowding the midranges, which are described as hazy and congested. Additionally, the trebles may sound smeared, and the user experiences a "closed" feeling, emphasizing the sensation of ears being plugged.

The JBL Live 460NC is an on-ear wireless headphone featuring active noise cancelling (ANC) and a 40mm dynamic driver. The reviewer notes that the build quality is solid and sturdy, and the sound signature is very good and neutral. In terms of battery performance, it offers an impressive 40 to 50 hours of playback depending on whether ANC is enabled. The reviewer heavily praises the convenience of wireless operation and finds that wired mode delivers stunningly low intermodulation distortion, outperforming many cheap class D amplifiers. However, several notable disadvantages are highlighted during technical testing and long-term use. A primary design flaw is that the 750mAh Lithium-ion battery is non-removable and soldered directly into the left ear cup's electronic board, eliminating any potential for simple user replacement. Comfort is also an issue, as the clamping force is high, making the headphones tiring to wear after about an hour. While the wired mode provides a cleaner signal and higher volume, wireless mode caps the maximum SPL at 92dB, introduces more high-order distortion components, and creates an audible intrinsic background noise when music...

The JBL Live 460NC wireless on-ear noise-cancelling headphones stand out for their strong connectivity, lasting power, and portability. Equipped with Bluetooth V5.0 and multi-point connection, the headphones pair smoothly with multiple devices like phones, tablets, and laptops up to a 10-foot range, making multitasking seamless. Users can expect an impressive 40 hours of battery life, with a quick 10-minute USB-C charge providing four hours of playback. Weighing only 210 grams, the physical build features 90-degree rotatable ear cups made of soft faux leather and an adjustable padded mesh fabric headband. In terms of audio performance, the 40mm drivers deliver a well-balanced tone with clear mid-frequencies that emphasize vocals and stringed instruments, which can be further customized using the presets or custom EQ via the companion JBL Headphones App. However, the headphones come with clear physical and functional drawbacks. The primary disadvantage is comfort during extended use; the small ear pads and high clamping force can cause ear discomfort, particularly when lying down. Because of this small on-ear design, the ear pads fail to create a tight seal, limiting the effectiveness...

The JBL Live 460NC Wireless are versatile on-ear headphones featuring a lightweight, well-built design with an impressive, nearly 32-hour continuous battery life with ANC enabled. They offer a warm, balanced sound profile with extra bass and excellent sound customization options via the JBL Headphones app, including a parametric EQ and multi-device pairing. However, the on-ear design can be fatiguing over long sessions, and the fit is inconsistent for those with glasses, leading to potential bass loss. Additionally, the Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) system struggles against low-frequency sounds like engines, and the headphones do not include a protective carrying case.
