Beyerdynamic Soul Byrd Review | 93 Data compared

The Beyerdynamic Soul BYRD is lauded by SoundGuys as a comfortable, budget-friendly wired earbud with a flush design ideal for lying down, offering clear audio and an integrated three-button remote. However, the review notes a heavily boosted sub-bass, reliance on a 3.5mm jack requiring dongles for modern phones, and a non-detachable cable that limits long-term durability.

The Beyerdynamic Soul Byrd is a pair of wired, in-ear headphones priced at an MSRP of $89.00. The reviewer highlights them as an excellent, reliable backup option for travel, especially when more expensive wireless alternatives run out of battery on long flights. They feature an ergonomic housing design that ensures a comfortable and secure fit, a universal three-button remote control with an integrated microphone, and come bundled with a high-quality carrying case that easily fits into a backpack.

The beyerdynamic Soul Byrd is a premium wired earphone that distinguishes itself with an exceptionally ergonomic, ultra-thin housing designed for maximum comfort. A standout feature is the flat-profile earbuds, which sit flush within the auricle, allowing users to wear them comfortably even while sleeping on their side without feeling pressure. The build quality is robust, featuring anodised aluminium decorative plates and a thick, durable cable, complemented by a three-button remote compatible with both iOS and Android.

The review outlines that the beyerdynamic Soul Byrd is a premium, old-school wired pair of earphones featuring a 3.5mm audio jack, 9mm dynamic drivers, and a 3-button in-line remote control. The core strength of this model lies in its ultra-thin, flat, and ergonomic driver housing design, which allows it to sit flush inside the ear without protruding. This specific form factor ensures excellent comfort even when the user is sleeping or lying down on their side. Performance-wise, the earphones deliver a sublime, well-balanced sound signature with deep but controlled bass, rich treble, and highly textured, roomy vocals. However, the reviewer highlights a couple of notable downsides to the device. First, the beyerdynamic Soul Byrd lacks any official ingress protection (IP) rating, making it highly susceptible to damage from intense sweat during gym sessions or exposure to rain. Second, the steep pricing of Rs 6,999 makes it difficult to widely recommend when compared to lower-priced competitors in the market. Despite these flaws, the review concludes that the product is a top-tier choice for those with flexible budgets who prioritize exceptional comfort...

The Beyerdynamic Soul Byrd and Blue Byrd are entry-level closed-back in-ear monitors (IEMs) that both feature a frequency response of 10 to 25,000 Hz, delivering an identical high-quality sound profile right out of the box. The Soul Byrd is a traditional wired model with a 1.2-meter cable and a 3.5 mm plug, retailing at an affordable MSRP of $89. In contrast, the slightly pricier Blue Byrd transitions to a wireless Bluetooth system supporting high-quality aptX, aptX LL, and AAC codecs, boasting a 6-hour battery life and an inline 3-button remote shared by both variants. A standout premium inclusion for the Blue Byrd is the MOSAYC sound customization software, which runs a personalized hearing test to dynamically adjust the audio tuning to the user's specific hearing profile. Audio testing across multiple genres revealed strong performance pros, including natural-sounding acoustic instruments, crisp and clean guitars, smooth vocal harmonics, and dynamic percussion hits that punch with a lot of authority. The build quality also exceeded expectations, utilizing an attractive plastic-and-metal construction and shipping with a hard zipper case and multiple ear tip sizes....

Jürgen Kraus’s review on AudioReviews.org notes that the Beyerdynamic Soul Byrd features basic plastic construction with a non-detachable cable, but highlights its "pancake-flat" storage case as a significant practical advantage. While praised for a natural, V-shaped sound, the earphones suffer from poor technical performance, including weak detail retrieval, a lack of punch, and a surprisingly high power requirement. Ultimately, the review describes the unit as a "Sleeping Beauty"—an unassuming, comfortable, and sonically agreeable choice for casual listeners despite its technical limitations.

The Beyerdynamic Soul Byrd is an $89.99 budget-friendly, wired in-ear headphone that heavily emphasizes a lightweight design and tonal balance. Its biggest pros include an exceptionally secure and comfortable fit, reminiscent of higher-end models, and a highly sustainable design featuring replaceable filters and parts. Sonically, it provides precise and clean low-end detail without being overly bass-heavy, forward-leaning midranges that deliver phenomenal vocal performances, and a surprisingly lifelike sense of depth and soundstage placement. Additionally, its low nominal impedance of 18 ohms makes it highly optimized for daily use with standard phones, tablets, and portable media players. On the flip side, the earphones suffer from a few notable cons regarding sound texture and distortion. Listeners seeking heavy, impactful bass might find the low end too dry and analytical. Furthermore, there is minor distortion present in the midranges, and the highly articulate treble struggles with a small amount of jarring sibilance on certain tracks. While the soundstage is impressive for an in-ear model, it still remains slightly cramped when compared directly to larger over-ear headphones. Overall, the reviewer concludes that for the...

The Beyerdynamic Soul Byrd earphones are wired, in-canal headphones that offer a high-quality audio experience for $89. They feature a sleek, nondescript black design with a 47-inch rubber cable and a three-button inline remote control. The earphones come with five pairs of silicone eartips, a shirt clip, and a zip-up case. While they provide a lightweight and secure fit for daily activities like walking, they lack an IP water-resistance rating. This means they are not ideal for exercise. The main pros of these earphones include strong audio performance with rich bass, detailed high frequencies, and excellent microphone clarity for calls. The sound signature leans toward accuracy rather than heavily boosted lows. This balance keeps vocals crisp and instruments well-balanced. However, a major con is that they are not suitable for listeners who want booming, intense sub-bass. Additionally, their wired design and lack of sweat resistance make them a poor choice for workouts.

The $89 Beyerdynamic Soul Byrd wired, in-ear headphones are praised by PCMag for delivering a highly accurate sound signature with rich bass, detailed highs, and a secure, comfortable fit. Key features include a three-button inline remote for comprehensive playback control and an excellent microphone for clear voice calls, although the lack of an IP rating makes them unsuitable for intense exercise. While offering excellent value with included accessories, these earphones prioritize balanced audio over the extreme bass favored by some users.

The What Hi-Fi? review of the Beyerdynamic Soul Byrd evaluates these budget, wired in-ear headphones as a superb and affordable audio upgrade, earning a perfect five-star score across sound, comfort, and build quality. Priced under £70 ($89), they replace the older Byron model with a more stylish, delicate design featuring flat, anodized aluminum faceplates that sit flush against the ear—making them exceptionally comfortable for listening in bed. The headphones weigh a light 6 grams, feature a 1.2-meter cable with a three-button in-line remote for iOS and Android, and ship with a robust carry case alongside five pairs of flared ear tips for easy isolation. Sonically, the review highlights that the Soul Byrds offer an outstandingly well-balanced, full-bodied, and rhythmically precise sound profile that avoids thin treble or boomy bass. Key pros include a clear and detailed vocal delivery, a comforting richness in the lower frequencies, and a beautifully balanced presentation that handles upbeat tempos with impressive poise. On the flip side, the reviewer found absolutely no cons to report at this price point, though they note minor structural omissions like...
