The AKG Y 45BT is a highly portable, closed-back on-ear Bluetooth headphone designed primarily for mobile use with smartphones rather than home listening. Weighing just 150 grams without its cable, this foldable device offers excellent, secure comfort and a well-engineered design that won a Red Dot Design Award. Key strengths include flawless Bluetooth connectivity, built-in ear cup controls with a hands-free microphone for headset functionality, and the ability to continue listening passively via an included mini-jack cable if the battery drains. However, its battery performance is relatively weak compared to competitors, maxing out at only eight hours of wireless playback time. In terms of sound performance, the headphones deliver a powerful, punchy bass and a rich lower-midrange response that suits outdoor commuting perfectly. Unfortunately, this heavy low-end emphasis comes at the cost of high-frequency transparency, and the overall soundstage feels narrow and compressed. Additional drawbacks include a faint but noticeable background hiss during Bluetooth playback and harshness in the lower treble when the volume is turned up. Fortunately, switching to a wired connection eliminates the background noise, improves bass precision,...

The AKG Y45BT is a compact, on-ear wireless headphone made primarily of white plastic, featuring earcup joints with a metallic look and light brown faux leather padding. The reviewer praised its highly appealing, distinct design and its exceptionally long, record-breaking Bluetooth connection range. Additionally, it offers incredibly simple smartphone pairing via integrated NFC, and its dual-hinge design allows the earcups to fold up neatly into the included carrying pouch for high portability. Acoustically, the headphone delivers a balanced sound profile accompanied by a sharp, punchy bass performance. On the downside, the review notes several ergonomic flaws, specifically highlighting that the control buttons on the right earcup are too small and positioned too close together. These buttons also suffer from poor tactile response, making it hard to feel distinct pressure points when pressed. Sound-wise, the treble range lacks fine detail and feels somewhat restrained. Furthermore, the reviewer criticized the missing support for the high-quality AptX audio codec, which prevents the device from fully maximizing its wireless sound potential over Bluetooth.

However, the headphones suffer from significant drawbacks regarding sound quality and everyday usability. The review highlights that the audio presentation is muffled and lacks clarity ("verhangen") with a notable deficiency in the bass department during wireless playback. While plugging in the physical cable does make the sound slightly punchier, the wireless performance remains a major con. Furthermore, the on-ear control elements are built too small, making them difficult to locate and operate by touch while wearing the device.

of the AKG Y 45 BT The connect review shows that the AKG Y 45 BT on-ear headphones balance a cool look with great build quality. They feature a strong metal build but stay light at just 157 grams. The headphones have a handy folding design and come with a matching round travel pouch. They also work as a full headset with a button to take phone calls. The sound is rich and well-balanced with deep bass, avoiding cheap tricks like overblown highs. They also offer decent spatial awareness for a closed-back model. However, the headphones have a few drawbacks due to their small size. The biggest downside is the short battery life of only 8 hours, which is half as long as what competitors offer. They also do not come with a wall charger, only a USB charging cable. When it comes to audio quality, the sound lacks top-tier transparency and crisp detail resolution. Finally, while the soft faux leather padding feels nice, it can make your ears feel warm during long listening sessions.
