What we like about NVIDIA GeForce GT 610

  • Extremely low power consumption (under 30W), requiring no extra power cables
  • Operates very quietly, with many models using fanless passive cooling
  • Effective for basic office tasks, web browsing, and 1080p video streaming
  • Compact low-profile design fits easily into small form factor (SFF) cases
  • Broad compatibility with legacy operating systems like Windows 7 and older hardware
  • Support for dual-monitor setups via HDMI, VGA, and DVI ports

What we don't like about NVIDIA GeForce GT 610

  • Extremely poor gaming performance, struggling with even basic modern titles at lowest settings
  • Obsolete architecture that lacks support for modern features like DirectX 12 or Ray Tracing
  • Limited memory bandwidth due to the older DDR3 VRAM and 64-bit bus
  • Struggles with hardware-accelerated decoding for high-resolution web content like 4K or VP9
  • Marginal performance improvement over many modern integrated graphics solutions
  • Can reach high temperatures (near 75°C) under sustained load despite low power draw

Verdict

The NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 is an entry-level graphics card launched in 2012, based on the 40nm Fermi 2.0 architecture and the GF119 graphics processor. It typically features 48 CUDA cores, an 810 MHz core clock, and 1620 MHz shader clock, paired with 1GB or 2GB of DDR3 memory on a 64-bit interface. Main advantages include its low power consumption of approximately 29W TDP—requiring no external power connectors—and its compact, single-slot low-profile design that fits easily into small form factor (SFF) PCs or Home Theater PCs (HTPC) for HD multimedia and multi-monitor productivity. However, it suffers from very poor performance in modern gaming, limited memory bandwidth of around 14.4 GB/s, and a lack of support for modern DirectX 12 feature levels, making it largely obsolete for anything beyond basic display tasks and legacy application acceleration.
