SJCAM SJ6 Legend Review | 96 Data compared

The Sjcam SJ6 Legend is highlighted by PCMag as a budget-friendly $160 action camera featuring an intuitive 2-inch touchscreen, a front-facing status LCD, and effective digital stabilization. Its 4K video offers accurate, sharp footage at 24fps, and the package includes a 30-meter waterproof case and extensive mounting accessories, including a built-in tripod mount. Despite strong performance, the camera's 4K recording is limited to a cinematic 24fps rather than smoother, faster frame rates found on higher-end alternatives. Cons also include a proprietary RAW image format requiring converter software and significantly reduced clarity for distant subjects.

The Sjcam SJ6 Legend is an excellent, low-cost alternative to expensive action cameras like the GoPro Hero5 Black, delivering a strong balance of video quality, features, and affordability. Retailing at $159, this tiny 2.9-ounce plastic device records stabilized 4K video at 24fps and features a highly intuitive 2-inch touch-screen interface for effortless menu navigation. It uniquely includes a standard tripod mount directly on the camera body for versatile mounting, a front monochrome LCD for quick status checks, and a rich bundle of accessories like a 100-foot waterproof housing and various mounting arms. Audio quality is notably clear through the built-in microphone, and users can shoot up to 75 minutes of crisp 4K footage on a single battery charge. However, the budget camera does come with several compromises, notably a dated mini USB charging port instead of a more modern micro USB or USB-C connection. While the digital stabilization successfully eliminates handheld jitters in 4K, it introduces minor visual artifacts, and the camera suffers from a weaker dynamic range that easily blows out bright skies. Additionally, the camera is limited to...

The SJCAM SJ6 Legend is a highly versatile action camera built around the Novatek 96660 chipset and a 16MP Panasonic image sensor, which allows it to deliver sharp video quality and vibrant colours. It records up to 4K interpolated resolution at 30fps and features a responsive 2-inch rear touchscreen, a front status screen, integrated Wi-Fi, and a durable rubber-coated enclosure. The camera offers excellent battery endurance, achieving up to 123 minutes of life during testing, and operates at cool temperature levels. Furthermore, it comes bundled with a comprehensive set of accessories, including a dual-lock waterproof housing rated for up to 3 meters and an extra back door suitable for depths up to 10 meters. However, the camera has notable limitations, primary among them being that the 4K recording is interpolated rather than native, and the video bitrate is capped low between 20,000kbps and 25,000kbps. Additionally, the maximum recording resolution is restricted to 2K at 30fps when operating the device via the companion SJCAM Zone App. While the bundle includes various adhesive and pivot mounts, it lacks a remote control and...

The SJCam SJ6 Legend is a budget-friendly sports action camera that features a highly responsive 2-inch touchscreen reminiscent of a smartphone interface, a Panasonic sensor, and an integrated tripod screw mount. Navigating through its extensive and easy-to-use menu options is highly intuitive. The camera boasts excellent build quality with an outer rubberized grip, an impeccable WiFi connection with a strong dedicated app, and clear audio capture that mixes low and high frequencies well. Additionally, daytime video recordings deliver great colors, good sharpness, and a useful "Super wide angle" field-of-view setting. However, the camera suffers from several technical limitations and functional bugs. Its advertised 4K recording is not native but interpolated, causing a loss in overall quality, while its high frame rates at lower resolutions are faked with doubled or tripled frames. Video details drop dramatically in dark environments, resulting in blurred images, and the camera creates an annoying "glass effect" when facing direct sunlight. Still photos lack overall sharpness, and early firmware versions suffered from a random freezing issue during 16MP image captures along with a recurring "violet frame" bug...

The NikkTech review evaluates the SJCAM SJ6 Legend, a budget-friendly action camera released in late 2016 as a strong competitor to GoPro. Built with a Novatek 96660 chipset and a Panasonic 16MP image sensor, the device stands out for its extensive list of hardware features and competitive performance. Prominent pros highlighted in the review include its impressive 123-minute battery life (which vastly outlasts rivals like the EKEN V8S), a highly responsive 2-inch rear touch LCD, and a useful front status screen. The camera also maintains cool operating temperatures during use and delivers significantly better image and audio quality than cheaper 4K clones in its price bracket, all protected by a robust rubber-coated enclosure with a high-quality waterproof housing. However, the review points out several notable cons regarding its video implementation and retail packaging. A primary drawback is that its advertised 4K recording is only interpolated (2880x2160p) rather than native, true 4K resolution. The reviewer also critiques the low video bitrate and expresses hope that a future firmware update will resolve this limitation. Furthermore, despite providing an otherwise generous array of...

The SJCAM SJ6 Legend is a versatile, budget-friendly action camera that delivers strong value for its price point. It features a high-quality, texturized physical design for an enhanced grip, a dual-display setup featuring a 2.0-inch back touchscreen and a 1.0-inch front status LCD, and a robust 1000mAh battery that provides roughly 70 to 80 minutes of continuous recording in 4K. The camera performs admirably across several specialized modes—including car, underwater, timelapse, and slow-motion recording—and captures clear, natural audio even when housed inside its sturdy 30-meter waterproof casing. Operating the device is highly intuitive, thanks to seamless integration with a 2.4G waterproof wrist remote control (SJ Smart Remote) that triggers instant camera responses. Despite its high versatility, the camera has notable limitations in hardware connectivity, software functionality, and low-light performance. Its 4K video resolution at 24fps is interpolated rather than native, and the device utilizes an older mini-USB port paired with a short cable instead of a standard micro-USB or USB-C connection. On the software side, the companion SJCAM Zone mobile app restricts video resolution to a maximum of 2K at...

The Sjcam SJ6 Legend is an excellent, low-cost alternative to expensive action cameras like the GoPro. For its budget price, it offers impressive features including crisp 4K video recording, built-in Wi-Fi, and a helpful dual-screen setup. The back of the camera features an intuitive 2-inch touch screen that makes navigating settings easy, while the front has a small screen showing battery life and recording status. It also stands out by including a standard tripod mount directly on the camera body, as well as a generous bundle of accessories, such as a waterproof case that protects the device down to 100 feet. However, this budget camera does come with a few trade-offs. The review notes that its digital stabilization system successfully removes shakes from 4K footage, but it can add some unwanted artifacts to the video. In terms of design flaws, the camera relies on a dated mini USB port for charging and data transfer, rather than a more modern micro USB or USB-C connection. Additionally, while it can take 16-megapixel photos in Raw format, the file type is proprietary and...
