What we like about SJCAM FunCam

  • Affordable price point compared to standard action cameras.
  • Compact and lightweight design tailored for small hands.
  • Fun built-in features including digital photo frames, stickers, and simple games.
  • Simple layout that older kids can understand quickly.
  • Good introductory tool to keep children engaged without using a smartphone.
  • Includes helpful settings like time-lapse and a photo self-timer.

What we don't like about SJCAM FunCam

  • Poor image and video quality, often described as grainy or comparable to old flip phones.
  • Subpar performance in low-light environments.
  • Hard plastic construction lacks a soft, shock-absorbing impact coating.
  • Noticeable shutter delay between pressing the button and capturing the image.
  • The user interface and multiple buttons can be non-intuitive or confusing for toddlers.
  • Requires a separate microSD card as there is no internal storage.
  • The internal battery is completely non-replaceable.

Verdict

The SJCAM FunCam is a budget-friendly action camera designed specifically for children, featuring a compact 71g lightweight build and a 2-inch HD LCD screen. It captures 720p HD video at 30fps and 5MP still photos, powered by an 800mAh internal battery that provides approximately 120 minutes of recording time. Its main characteristics include child-friendly features like built-in games (such as Tetris), 24 digital photo frames, and time-lapse or self-timer modes to encourage creativity. Pros include its extremely simple button interface, portable size, and affordable price point, making it an ideal introductory device for young users. However, it lacks high-end features, with notable cons being its low 720p resolution, absence of image stabilization, and lack of waterproofing without an external case.
