Verdict

The Vileda Steam Plus XXL is an upright 1550W steam mop designed for deep cleaning without chemicals, destroying up to 99.9% of bacteria and viruses using only water. It features a broad 40 cm cleaning head ideal for large areas, an on-demand heating element that is ready to use in just 15 seconds, a 0.4-litre water tank, and a generous 7-metre power cable. Main advantages include three precise steam settings for safely transitioning between delicate parquet, tiles, and carpets (using the included carpet glider), automatic steady steam emission, a lightweight design under 2.5 kg, and a detachable handle for compact storage. On the downside, the water tank is non-removable, it lacks a manual steam control trigger, there is no built-in limescale filter, and the loosely attached velcro microfiber pads can occasionally slip out of place during use.

  • The power cord can occasionally get in the way during cleaning.
  • Its performance on carpets is limited to refreshing and odor lifting rather than deep cleaning.
  • The water tank is non-removable, meaning the entire unit must be flipped over to empty it.
  • Leaves floors wetter than some alternative steam cleaners, requiring a slight drying period.
  • The wide base cannot easily fit into narrow, tighter spaces or intricate room corners.
  • Limited functionality as it is strictly designed for floor mopping and lacks handheld attachments for grout or windows.
