Amazon Kindle Oasis 2017 WiFi Cellular 32GB Review | 68 Data compared

The 9th Generation Amazon Kindle Oasis with LTE is praised as a luxury, high-performance e-reader, featuring a 7-inch, 300ppi anti-glare display, premium aluminum chassis, and IPX8 water resistance. Key pros include the fastest page-turn performance on a Kindle, free 4G LTE for seamless Whispersync, and 8GB or 32GB storage options. Conversely, the device's main cons include its high $349.99 price point, the use of a micro-USB port, and increased weight (194g) which, along with the wider design, makes it less comfortable for long, one-handed reading sessions compared to its predecessor. Additionally, the 7-inch size hinders portability, and while it supports Audible, the reviewer found the integration less convenient than using a smartphone. Ultimately, the review concludes that while this is the "best" reading experience, it is a luxury purchase rather than a necessity, as cheaper models like the Kindle Paperwhite offer similar core functionality.

The Guardian calls the 2017 Kindle Oasis the Rolls-Royce of e-readers and an indulgent purchase that is still the one to beat. The reviewer likes the bigger 7-inch screen, the excellent page-turn buttons and the larger built-in battery that promises six weeks of reading. The solid aluminium body makes the device 63 grams heavier at 194 grams, but it feels sturdier and still comfortable for long sessions. Water resistance and Audible integration are the standout additions, and syncing between ebook and audiobook worked well for the reviewer. The reviewer criticises that readers must buy both formats, cannot side-load audiobooks and get no headphone socket or cover.

The 2017 Amazon Kindle Oasis is a premium 7-inch e-reader featuring a durable aluminium design, IPX8 waterproofing, and an asymmetric shape with physical page-turn buttons. It enhances the reading experience with an accelerometer for automatic rotation and a sharp 300 ppi display, combined with the fastest page turns yet seen on an E Ink device. While offering improved performance and Audible support via Bluetooth, its high price and the lack of a battery-charging cover—unlike its predecessor—are notable drawbacks. In a 2017 review, Smart Bitches, Trashy Books praises the Amazon Kindle Oasis (2nd Generation) as a fast, lightweight, and responsive e-reader featuring a 7-inch, 300ppi screen, physical page-turn buttons, and a comfortable, ergonomic design for one-handed use. Notable features include waterproof, aluminum construction and Bluetooth capabilities for Audible streaming, though the screen inexplicably locks during audio playback. Despite these premium features, the review highlights that the $250 price tag is high compared to the $119 Kindle Paperwhite, which provides the same screen resolution. The reviewer concludes it is a luxury device that is hard to recommend for value over cheaper alternatives, despite its excellent performance. Smart Bitches

The 9th Gen Kindle Oasis features a 7-inch display described as the best on any Kindle, providing exceptionally smooth, even lighting. Performance is significantly improved with faster page turns and responsiveness compared to previous models. Furthermore, the addition of waterproofing and increased storage capacities (8GB/32GB) makes it highly versatile, particularly for Audible support. However, the review notes drawbacks, including a higher price point and the exclusion of a protective cover in the box, requiring a separate purchase for screen protection. While the aluminum design feels premium, the reviewer found it less grippable than older, smaller plastic models. Additionally, despite being faster, the device retains the subtle, inherent lag common to E Ink technology. For more details, visit Kirkville.

The 2017 Amazon Kindle Oasis features a 7-inch, 300ppi flush-mount E Ink screen with an aluminum design, representing a significant upgrade in durability with IPX8-rated waterproofing. It introduces Bluetooth for Audible audiobooks and features a tapered, ergonomic design with physical page-turn buttons, ensuring comfortable, one-handed reading. While PCMag highlights its superior display and performance as the "best mainstream e-reader," the device carries a high price tag, starting at $249.99/£229.99, and lacks a headphone jack.

The 2017 Amazon Kindle Oasis introduced a premium 7-inch, 300 ppi E Ink display and an IPX8 waterproof aluminum chassis, upgrading from the previous 6-inch design. Key features include physical page-turn buttons, auto-rotating screen orientation, and Bluetooth integration for Audible audiobooks. While boasting 12 LEDs and an ambient light sensor, the device removes the integrated charging cover found on its predecessor, requiring an optional accessory for extra battery life. Despite being considered the best e-reader on the market, its high price and cold, aluminum feel make the Kindle Paperwhite a better value for most users.

The Evening Standard calls the Amazon Kindle Oasis 2017 WiFi Cellular 32GB Amazon's best Kindle, but questions its value. Its seven-inch screen feels more like a book, while adaptive lighting and effective glare protection support comfortable extended reading. The sturdy metal body feels premium, and its thicker grip contains the battery instead of relying on the cover. Waterproofing particularly impresses the reviewer and makes the Oasis appealing for readers who enjoy books in the bath. Audible and Whispersync connect listening with reading, but Bluetooth headphones are necessary because neither speakers nor a headphone jack exist. Weak fabric-cover magnets cause concern after a detachment, and the verdict doubts whether these extras justify choosing this premium model.
