Amazon Kindle 2019 Review | 68 Data compared

The 2019 Amazon Kindle marks a significant, budget-friendly upgrade by introducing a front-lit display, allowing for comfortable reading in the dark via four LEDs. While retaining a 167 ppi screen resolution, it offers reliable performance, a responsive touchscreen, and Audible audiobook support through Bluetooth. Key drawbacks noted in the review include the lack of waterproofing, the absence of an amber "night light" mode, and the use of an aging micro-USB port. Additionally, the 4GB storage capacity may prove limiting for heavy audio user, despite being adequate for text-based ebooks. The device is positioned as an excellent, lightweight, and durable entry-level reader that brings essential, premium features to a lower price point. It is considered a strong choice for users upgrading from older, non-lit models.

The 2019 Amazon Kindle review from Der Spiegel highlights the 10th-generation basic model as a significant upgrade due to its newly integrated front light, which allows for reading in the dark. While the design retains a chunky plastic frame, it is more compact than its predecessor, with four LEDs providing adjustable illumination. Key advantages include the addition of Bluetooth for Audible audiobook support and a robust software ecosystem,, making this entry-level device far more versatile, notes the review. However, the review points out several limitations related to its budget status, including a lower 167 ppi screen resolution compared to premium models. Additionally, it lacks waterproofing and still uses a micro-USB port instead of USB-C, leaving it with 4GB of storage.

The 2019 Amazon Kindle (10th Gen) introduces a built-in front light with four LEDs to its entry-level e-reader, allowing for comfortable reading in low-light conditions. This compact, 6-inch device also adds Bluetooth support for Audible audiobooks, enhancing its versatility while maintaining a lightweight design. Key pros highlighted include excellent value for money and the addition of the illuminated display, which significantly bridges the gap between basic and premium models. Users benefit from the comprehensive Kindle ecosystem, ensuring easy access to a large library of titles. Cons center on the lower 167 ppi screen resolution, which may appear less sharp than premium alternatives, along with the absence of waterproofing. Additionally, the device uses an outdated micro-USB port for charging and lacks physical page-turn buttons.

ComputerBase questions Amazon Kindle 2019's direction because new lighting and Audible support leave other longstanding shortcomings without meaningful improvements. The six-inch Carta display retains a low 167 ppi resolution, although the review still notes good overall text presentation. Its compact body weighs 174 grams, which suits mobile reading despite the weight increase caused by the added lighting. The reviewer finds construction generally good, but criticises sharp side edges and smooth plastic that can slip from the hand. Limited format support remains a concern, and the reader offers neither expandable storage nor protection against accidental water exposure. Overall, ComputerBase sees an unclear purpose for this updated entry-level model, since the additions fail to address important weaknesses.

Technikfaultier’s review highlights the 2019 Amazon Kindle’s built-in, four-LED frontlight as a significant, versatile upgrade for a budget e-reader, allowing for comfortable dark reading without an external lamp. The device retains a compact, lightweight plastic design weighing 174 grams and adds Bluetooth support for Audible audiobooks. However, key limitations include a lower 167 ppi screen resolution compared to higher-end models, the lack of waterproofing, and the use of a Micro-USB port. Overall, it is recommended as a high-value, "price-to-performance" option for basic, daily reading needs.

The 2019 Amazon Kindle (10th generation) brings significant value to the entry-level market by introducing a built-in front light, allowing for comfortable reading in low-light conditions. While maintaining a lightweight, 6-inch design, the device adds Bluetooth support for Audible audiobooks, making it a versatile option, though it lacks the premium feel and high-resolution display of more expensive models. Key advantages, or pros, of this model include the even illumination provided by its adjustable front LEDs and a solid, durable build that remains comfortable for extended reading sessions. Additionally, the device offers generous battery life, lasting several weeks on a single charge under normal use. However, compromises, or cons, are evident with a lower 167 ppi screen resolution, which produces less sharp text compared to the Paperwhite model. Furthermore, the 10th-generation Kindle is not waterproof, relies on a Micro-USB port, and exhibits slight performance lag during menu navigation.

The 2019 Amazon Kindle (10th Gen) is a lightweight, portable e-reader featuring a built-in front light for reading in the dark and Bluetooth for Audible audiobooks. The device provides an excellent price-performance ratio, boasting weeks-long battery life, a 167 ppi display, and useful software tools like X-Ray. While compact, limitations include a recessed screen that collects dust, lack of waterproofing, and lower resolution (167 ppi) compared to the Paperwhite.

The futurezone review welcomes the Kindle 2019’s front light, which removes a major weakness from Amazon’s basic reader. Its minimalist approach cuts extras but still delivers an acceptable reading experience, with few weaknesses in everyday use. Four LEDs and 167 ppi reveal compromises beside the Paperwhite, particularly when graphics demand more detail from the screen. The compact body fits a trouser pocket, while 4GB provides ample ebook storage but less room for audiobooks. Amazon claims several weeks of battery life, but the reviewer’s limited test period did not allow independent confirmation. The verdict finds the Kindle mostly satisfactory, although readers of graphic-heavy material or numerous audiobooks need better-equipped alternatives.

ComputerBase notes new library features on the Kindle 2019, including automatic read status for books that readers finish. Text remains clear despite lower resolution, and Bookerly with excellent typesetting creates calm, harmonious spacing between individual characters. Page turns match the Paperwhite’s speed, and the reviewer sees no visible ghosting from content on previous pages. Reading settings include nine fonts with OpenDyslexic, 14 sizes, five text weights and themes that preserve preferred adjustments. Bluetooth pairing works quickly, but the audiobook experience needs improvement because Audible supplies large downloads without quality options. With less than 3GB available, lengthy audiobooks can quickly strain storage, so the review recommends smaller downloadable portions.

The Papierlos Lesen hands-on review examines a Kindle 2019 that the author bought personally and finds it nearly flawless. Four white LEDs provide even illumination with 24 brightness levels, and contrast slightly exceeds that of the Paperwhite. Text looks more even at 167 ppi, while the difference from the 300 ppi Paperwhite remains marginal during reading. Smooth plastic looks cheap, attracts fingerprints and makes holding the reader less secure, although a cover solves this. Operation feels easy and almost foolproof, but the device offers neither touchscreen deactivation during reading nor inverted screen colours. The main fault involves occasional missed rapid inputs, which the author noticed while entering notes or a password.
