Verdict

Nine kilos of washing and sixteen programs make the Hotpoint NDB 964489 WDA a practical choice for a busy family on a budget. Its washing cycles use 40 kWh per 100 cycles, and a full wash-and-dry cycle needs 48 L of water, so running costs stay low. The Anti Allergy program and the steam option help with pollen, mites and pet hair, and the pre-mix stage lifts stains at 20 °C. The trade-off is drying, which is worth knowing before you buy. It dries 6 kg, so a full 9 kg wash has to be split in two when you want it dry. The drum holds 58 L. It suits a household that washes often, wants allergy-friendly laundry, mostly dries lighter loads and likes to set the drying level by hand.
