What we like about Intel Celeron G4900

  • Extremely affordable entry-level pricing
  • Highly efficient for low-power tasks like crypto mining rigs
  • Stays very cool and quiet during operation with the stock cooler
  • Easy to install and reliable for basic office or home productivity
  • Good value as a temporary 'placeholder' CPU during system testing or BIOS updates
  • Supports ECC memory, which is rare for budget-tier desktop processors

What we don't like about Intel Celeron G4900

  • Weak multitasking due to only having 2 cores and 2 threads
  • Poor gaming performance, often resulting in stuttering or unplayable frame rates
  • Significant performance 'choking' under heavy workloads like video editing or streaming
  • Lacks Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost technology
  • Integrated UHD 610 graphics are basic and struggle with high-resolution video streaming lag
  • High CPU usage (often 100%) even during simple tasks like driver installations

Verdict

The Intel Celeron G4900 is an entry-level, dual-core desktop processor from the 8th Generation 'Coffee Lake' family, featuring a base clock speed of 3.1 GHz and 2 MB of Intel Smart Cache. Built on a 14nm process with a 54W TDP, it supports up to 64 GB of dual-channel DDR4-2400 memory and includes integrated Intel UHD Graphics 610, which supports 4K resolution at 60Hz. Its primary advantages include high energy efficiency, a very low price point for budget-friendly office or home media builds, and support for ECC memory and Intel Optane. However, it is limited by a lack of Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost technologies, resulting in only 2 threads, and its modest multi-core performance makes it unsuitable for modern gaming or heavy multitasking.
