What we like about Vicks SweetDreams Cool Mist VUL575

  • Built-in ceiling image projector with three child-friendly themes calms babies and acts as a nice night light.
  • Whisper-quiet ultrasonic operation makes it perfect for undisturbed sleep and nurseries.
  • Cool mist technology prevents burn risks, making it safe to place around children.
  • Dual scent pad slots are compatible with Vicks VapoPads to provide aromatic congestion relief.
  • Large 3.8-liter (1-gallon) tank capacity provides continuous output for up to 24 hours.
  • Filter-free design saves money since there are no recurring filter replacement costs.
  • Wider tank opening makes it significantly easier to fill and clean compared to older models.

What we don't like about Vicks SweetDreams Cool Mist VUL575

  • Requires high-frequency manual cleaning and daily drying to prevent mold or bacterial growth due to the lack of a filter.
  • Can create white mineral dust and requires distilled or purified water to avoid blowing sediment into the air.
  • Projector lights and the green power dial glow cannot be dimmed, which may bother those who prefer complete darkness.
  • Bottom-fill tank design requires users to invert and carry a heavy tank when fully filled.
  • Running the unit on its highest setting for an extended period can cause heavy condensation or puddles underneath.

Verdict

The Vicks SweetDreams Cool Mist Humidifier (VUL575) is a 25-watt ultrasonic device featuring a 3.8-litre water tank that provides up to 24 hours of continuous operation in rooms up to 35 square metres. Its main characteristics and pros include an ultra-quiet 40-decibel operation, a dual scent pad slot compatible with up to two VapoPads for soothing essential oil vapours, and an integrated ceiling projector that rotates through nine child-friendly images across three dream themes (Safari, Sea, and Starry Night). The filter-free design eliminates the recurring cost of wicking filters, and an automatic shut-off safety feature triggers when the tank runs dry. However, minor cons include the requirement for frequent weekly descaling maintenance and a tendency to create a fine white mineral dust if operated with hard tap water instead of distilled water.
