The Rakuten Kobo Elipsa 2E is a 10.3-inch E Ink device that serves as a versatile digital notebook, featuring a faster 2GHz processor for improved responsiveness. A key advantage is the ability to annotate directly on PDFs and eBooks, paired with the redesigned, rechargeable Kobo Stylus 2. However, the device features a 227 PPI screen and a plastic build that feels less premium than competitors. For workflow integration, the Elipsa 2E includes native EPUB/PDF support, Dropbox and Google Drive syncing, and built-in OverDrive support. The addition of the ComfortLight PRO warm frontlight improves nighttime reading, though the device lacks waterproofing, and the stylus functionality provides a slightly high-friction writing experience. The sleepcover is no longer bundled with the device, making it an additional expense. Ultimately, the Elipsa 2E is positioned as a superior alternative to the Kindle Scribe for note-taking and file organization outside the Amazon ecosystem. It offers a robust, dedicated writing experience, although users seeking a metal finish and higher PPI might look elsewhere.
