What we like about Rokinon T S 24mm F 3 5 ED AS UMC

  • Significantly lower price point compared to Canon/Nikon equivalents
  • Solid build quality overall with smooth mechanical movements
  • Effective perspective control for architecture and landscape photography
  • Good sharpness and detail when stopped down (optimal between f/5.6 and f/11)
  • Excellent maximum magnification for a wide-angle lens (0.34x)
  • Low chromatic aberration and vignetting compared to other budget options

What we don't like about Rokinon T S 24mm F 3 5 ED AS UMC

  • Noticeably soft image quality and low contrast when used wide open at f/3.5
  • Adjustment knobs are small and can be difficult or uncomfortable to operate
  • Extensive use of plastic in controls raises concerns about long-term reliability
  • Lack of friction in loose knobs can cause the lens to drop suddenly
  • Prone to flaring due to the lack of an included lens hood
  • Fully manual operation requires more time for setup and stop-down metering

Verdict

The Rokinon T-S 24mm f/3.5 ED AS UMC is a full-frame manual focus tilt-shift lens designed for architectural and landscape photography, featuring 16 elements in 11 groups, including two aspherical and two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements. It offers perspective control through a +/-8.5° tilt range and a +/-12mm shift capacity, with a rotating mount that allows for 90° adjustments in 30° steps. Main pros include its significantly more affordable price compared to name-brand alternatives, solid overall build quality, and an 82mm filter thread that accommodates standard filters. However, notable cons include softness and low contrast when shooting wide open (requiring stopping down to f/8 or f/11 for peak sharpness), small and fiddly control knobs that can be difficult to operate, and the lack of a lens hood which makes it prone to flaring.
