What we like about Siemens WM14Q440

  • 42 L of water per cycle keeps water use down.
  • A 1400 RPM spin leaves the laundry drier before it goes on the line.
  • The 58 L drum fits towels, jeans and shirts in one load.
  • AquaStop protects against leaks from the hose.
  • Load balancing keeps the spin steadier.
  • The anti-crease function helps the finish.

What we don't like about Siemens WM14Q440

  • Eleven programs limit the choice on a busy week.
  • The spin runs at 72 dB, which is loud during the final spin.
  • 174 kWh a year is high for a 7 kg machine.
  • There is no energy saving mode to lower power use.
  • At 71 kg it is heavy to move.

Verdict

Water use is the main reason to look at the Siemens WM14Q440, which needs 42 L per cycle and 8140 L a year. It is a 7 kg front loader with a 58 L drum, enough for towels, jeans and shirts in a regular load. The spin reaches 1400 RPM and the spin-drying efficiency is class B, so clothes come out fairly dry. Hygiene, wool, shirt and outdoor cycles cover a range of needs. AquaStop and overflow protection add peace of mind. The trade-off is energy use, at 174 kWh a year, and the spin runs at 72 dB, which is loud. The list has 11 programs, a short list for a busy household. It suits someone who washes wool and hygiene loads often and does not mind a loud spin.
