What we like about Ariete 1318W

  • Sophisticated, stylish retro Italian design from the Moderna Line
  • Integrated coffee grinder allows fresh grinding of beans directly at home
  • Produces intense, full-bodied espresso with a rich cream texture at 15 bars of pressure
  • Highly competitive pricing and great value for money compared to similar bean-to-cup machines
  • Simple operation and ease of use without unnecessary frills
  • Removable water tank, drip tray, and components make it easy to clean
  • Milk frother nozzle prepares thick cream for cappuccinos and dispenses hot water for teas

What we don't like about Ariete 1318W

  • Integrated grinder tends to scatter coffee grounds, making the surrounding area messy
  • The built-in grinder motor runs quite loud during operation
  • Finest grind setting may still be a bit too coarse for advanced espresso hobbyists
  • Spouts on the portafilter can occasionally cause coffee to splash around the cup while pouring
  • Cup warmer area on top is relatively small for standard-sized mugs
  • Over-tamping or packing the ground coffee too tightly can easily clog the filter holes

Verdict

The Ariete 1318 Moderna is a stylish semi-automatic espresso machine featuring a 15-bar pressure pump, a 1080W power rating, and an integrated conical burr grinder with 8 adjustable settings. This compact unit includes an 800ml removable water tank, a 250g bean hopper, and a 'Maxi Cappuccino' steam wand for frothing milk, allowing users to brew one or two cups simultaneously using freshly ground beans or ESE pods. Its main advantages include a fast heat-up time, sophisticated Italian design with sinuous lines, and an easy-to-clean removable drip tray; however, some users find the 800ml water capacity relatively small for frequent use and note that the manual operation requires some practice to achieve perfect extraction.
