Reviews last updated: July 2026 · How we calculate this

What we like about Sigma 10 20mm F3 5 EX DC HSM

  • Constant maximum aperture of f/3.5 throughout the entire zoom range
  • Solid and sturdy build quality (Sigma EX series)
  • Fast and quiet autofocus thanks to the Hyper-Sonic Motor (HSM)
  • Excellent center sharpness and high contrast in images
  • Effective at handling flare and ghosting with Super Multi-Layer coating
  • Full-time manual focus override capability
  • Included petal-shaped lens hood and carrying pouch
  • Great value for money, especially for interior and landscape photography

What we don't like about Sigma 10 20mm F3 5 EX DC HSM

  • Noticeable softness in the corners, even when stopped down
  • Visible barrel distortion at the 10mm wide end
  • Significant chromatic aberration (color fringing) in high-contrast edges
  • Large and expensive 82mm filter thread size
  • Lack of optical image stabilization
  • Heavier and bulkier than some competitors and the f/4-5.6 variable version
  • Focus ring can feel stiff and may produce clicking noises during video autofocus
  • Not weather-sealed

Verdict

The Sigma 10-20mm f/3.5 EX DC HSM is an ultra-wide-angle zoom lens designed specifically for APS-C format DSLR cameras, delivering a 35mm equivalent focal range of 15-30mm and a wide maximum field of view of 102.4 degrees. Its optical layout consists of 13 elements in 10 groups, incorporating two Extraordinary Low Dispersion (ELD) elements, one Special Low Dispersion (SLD) element, and four aspherical lenses to correct aberrations, alongside 7 rounded diaphragm blades, an 82mm filter thread, and a minimum focusing distance of 24 cm. Key advantages include a constant f/3.5 maximum aperture across the entire zoom range for superior low-light performance, a sturdy and high-quality EX-class build, and a fast Hyper-Sonic Motor (HSM) ensuring rapid autofocus with full-time manual focus override. However, the lens suffers from notable corner softness and chromatic aberration when shot wide open, exhibits barrel distortion at the 10mm wide end, lacks built-in optical image stabilization, and can produce noisy clicking during video autofocus micro-adjustments.
