Reviews last updated: July 2026 · How we calculate this

What we like about Meike 25mm F 1 8

  • Extremely affordable price point, often under $75
  • Solid, high-quality all-metal construction that feels durable
  • Smooth and well-damped manual focus and aperture rings
  • Very compact and lightweight, making it ideal for street and travel photography
  • Pleasing image quality and color rendering with a 'vintage' character
  • Decent low-light performance due to the wide f/1.8 aperture
  • Includes physical depth-of-field markings and mechanical hard stops

What we don't like about Meike 25mm F 1 8

  • Noticeable softness and lack of sharpness when shooting wide open at f/1.8, especially in corners
  • Fully manual lens with no autofocus or electronic communication with the camera
  • De-clicked (smooth) aperture ring can be easily moved by accident
  • Visible barrel distortion and vignetting, particularly at wider apertures
  • Sensitive to lens flare in challenging lighting conditions
  • Front lens cap has a poor grip and is easy to lose
  • Mounting can be tricky due to lack of clear alignment marks and a slippery barrel

Verdict

The Meike 25mm f/1.8 is a compact, all-manual prime lens designed for APS-C mirrorless cameras, featuring a sturdy all-metal body and an optical construction of 7 elements in 5 groups with multi-layer coatings. Its fast f/1.8 maximum aperture and 9-blade diaphragm provide excellent low-light performance and smooth bokeh, while the 0.25m minimum focus distance and 49mm filter thread make it highly versatile for street, portrait, and landscape photography. Key advantages include its very affordable price point, tactile manual focus ring with a long throw, and a de-clicked aperture ring that is ideal for silent video recording. However, it lacks electronic contacts for EXIF data transmission, and users often report significant barrel distortion and noticeable softness in the corners when shooting wide open at f/1.8.
