For a family that drinks coffee in big batches, the Philips HD7459/20 is worth a look. It makes up to 15 cups from a 1.2 L tank with a 1000 W heater, and a brew takes 10 min. The timer lets you start the coffee before you get up, and the display shows the settings. Some parts go in the dishwasher, and a 30 min auto shut-off turns it off if you forget. The non-slip base keeps it still while the coffee brews. The water level indicator shows how much is left. The trade-off is size: at 33 cm deep it needs a wide spot on the worktop, and the carafe is not insulated. It suits a household that makes coffee for several people and has room to spare on the counter.
