Verdict
The Philips Café Gourmet HD 5416/60 brews a steadily hot, evenly extracted cup with one on/off switch, but it stands about 51 cm tall and has no timer.

Third-party reviews

What we like about Philips HD5416/60

  • Excellent flavor and intense aroma due to the Boil & Brew direct brewing system
  • High brewing and serving temperature ensuring the coffee stays very hot
  • Fast brewing speed, handling a full jug in under five minutes
  • Unique, elegant aesthetic featuring a transparent glass water tank
  • Easy maintenance with dishwasher-safe parts and a removable filter basket
  • Extremely quiet operation during the boiling and infusion process

What we don't like about Philips HD5416/60

  • Residual water remains at the flat bottom of the water tank after brewing
  • Lacks advanced convenience features like a programmable timer or aroma profiles
  • The glass jug lid is tricky to handle and cannot be detached for easier cleaning
  • Condensation routinely builds up on various plastic elements and lids
  • No automatic descaling indicator or alert system

Verdict

The Philips Café Gourmet HD5416/60 is an 1,800 W drip coffee maker with a 1.25-litre glass water tank for about 10 to 15 cups. Its Boil & Brew system heats the water to at least 93°C before brewing, while the Aroma Twister mixes the coffee evenly in the carafe; it also has anti-drip protection, 30-minute automatic safety shut-off and dishwasher-safe parts. The flat-bottomed water container can leave a small amount of water behind, and the brewing temperature cannot be customised for individual cups.
