What we don't like about Melitta EPOS

  • At 4.6 kg it is heavy to move around the kitchen.
  • The 35.9 cm depth and 35.7 cm height need a lot of counter space.
  • There is no display or timer, so it cannot brew by itself in the morning.
  • The strength settings are hard to tell apart in the cup.
  • The cups are small compared with a standard mug.

Verdict

Grinding and brewing in one unit is what sets the Melitta EPOS apart. The built-in grinder has seven settings, and the aroma control lets you choose a stronger or milder cup. A rotating outlet spreads water over the grounds much like a hand pour-over, and a pre-infusion step wets the coffee before the main brew. The water tank comes off for filling, and the filter holder is removable for cleaning. The trade-off is size. At 4.6 kg, with a 35.7 cm height and a 35.9 cm depth, it takes up real room on the counter. It also has no display, so there is no timer to start it before you get up. It suits a buyer who wants freshly ground coffee every morning and has space for a larger machine.
