Third-party reviews

What we like about AEG TR818A2OB

  • 177 kWh a year keeps energy use reasonable for an 8 kg load.
  • Silent mode makes it easier to run after dark.
  • You can choose the drying level for each load.
  • Selectable drying times let you set how long it runs.
  • The drum turns both ways to help the load tumble evenly.
  • A bed linen program and a wool program cover two common needs.

What we don't like about AEG TR818A2OB

  • Nine drying programs gives less choice than many buyers want.
  • The 67 dB noise is loud in a quiet room.
  • At 46.6 kg it is hard to move on your own.
  • Its energy label is class C, so the kWh figure is the better guide.

Verdict

Silent mode is the feature that sets the AEG TR818A2OB apart. The noise level is 67 dB, which is loud after dark, so the quiet setting earns its place. The heat pump and inverter motor keep energy use to 177 kWh a year for an 8 kg load. You can pick the drying level and the drying time yourself, so a towel and a shirt do not get the same treatment. The drum turns both ways, and gentle drying and a hygiene program round off the basics. The trade-off is the program list. Nine programs gives less choice than some people want if they like to fine-tune each load. It suits a household that runs the dryer in the evening and wants to keep the noise down in a shared home.
