Reviews last updated: July 2026 · How we calculate this

What we like about Panasonic LUMIX S Pro 16 35mm F 4

  • Excellent sharpness even at the maximum f/4 aperture
  • Compact and lightweight design (approx. 1 lb), ideal for travel and gimbal use
  • Robust, weather-resistant build quality (dust, splash, and freeze-resistant)
  • Fast, silent, and accurate autofocus with a double-magnet linear motor
  • Convenient push/pull focus clutch for instant AF/MF switching
  • Virtually no focus breathing, making it a strong choice for videography
  • Low distortion compared to competitors in the same focal range

What we don't like about Panasonic LUMIX S Pro 16 35mm F 4

  • Relatively expensive for a constant f/4 aperture zoom lens
  • Maximum aperture is 'only' f/4, which may be limiting in very low light
  • Noticeable fall-off in sharpness and detail starting at f/16 due to diffraction
  • Some users report fairly high vignetting when shooting wide open
  • Occasional autofocus inconsistencies reported by some users on certain camera bodies
  • External zoom design (lens extends slightly) can be harder to keep perfectly sealed over time

Verdict

The Panasonic Lumix S PRO 16-35mm f/4 is an L-mount wide-angle zoom lens featuring an optical design of 12 elements in 9 groups, including three aspherical, one ED, and one UHR lens to minimize aberrations. Certified by Leica, it offers a constant f/4 aperture, a high-speed 480 fps linear motor for precise autofocus, and a rugged dust/splash/freeze-resistant build. Key pros include its lightweight 500g portable frame, exceptional corner-to-corner sharpness, and a manual focus clutch for tactile control. However, cons include the lack of built-in optical image stabilisation and a relatively modest f/4 maximum aperture for low-light photography.
