Amazon Kindle Oasis WiFi 3G Review | 68 Data compared

Der Spiegel gives Amazon Kindle Oasis WiFi 3G a brief first look, rather than an extended practical test. The reviewer finds its thicker grip comfortable, while the 131-gram weight suggests easy handling during longer reading sessions. The advertised 3.4-millimetre thickness applies only to the slimmer section, since the battery and electronics need more space. A sensor rotates the display and adjusts page-button functions, so the asymmetric design accommodates both left-handed and right-handed use. The six-inch screen offers 300 ppi, and ten side-mounted LEDs promise brighter, more even illumination than earlier arrangements. Its small 250 mAh battery draws criticism, while Amazon claims eight weeks of reading with the supplied battery cover.

The 2016 Heise review highlights the first-generation Kindle Oasis as an exceptionally light, ergonomic e-reader featuring a superior 6-inch 300 ppi display with 10 LEDs for even lighting, plus automatic screen rotation. Key pros include the asymmetrical design with physical page-turn buttons and a luxurious build, allowing for comfortable, long-term one-handed reading. Conversely, primary cons involve a significantly reduced internal battery for portability, making the device reliant on its included magnetic charging cover, alongside a high, premium price point for a device lacking waterproofing. The review concludes that the Oasis offers unmatched ergonomics but requires a "painful compromise" on battery life and cost compared to the Paperwhite, which provides better value.

The Kindle Oasis is positioned as a premium, ergonomic e-reader featuring an asymmetrical design with a thicker grip and physical page-turn buttons, optimized for comfortable one-handed reading. It boasts a high-quality 7-inch 300 PPI E Ink display, an adjustable warm light for reduced eye strain, IPX8 waterproofing, and Bluetooth support for Audible, making it a versatile device for varied environments. However, the device has a high price point, relies on an older micro-USB port, and offers shorter battery life compared to other Kindle models, representing a significant investment for a luxury reading experience.

The Kindle Oasis is positioned as Amazon’s premium e-reader, distinguished by its unique asymmetrical aluminum design, 7-inch 300 PPI display, and an ergonomic grip designed for comfortable one-handed use. Key features include dedicated physical page-turn buttons, an auto-rotating gyroscope, and a color-adjustable front light that allows users to shift from cool to warm tones to reduce eye strain. Additionally, the device is fully waterproof with an IPX8 rating. However, the review notes significant cons, primarily the high price point compared to the Kindle Paperwhite. While the 2019 version offers good battery life, it utilizes an aging micro-USB port rather than the modern USB-C standard. Furthermore, the aluminum body can feel slippery and is prone to fingerprints, often requiring a case.

The 2016 Amazon Kindle Oasis features a radical, ergonomic, asymmetrical design with a wedge-shaped back that facilitates comfortable one-handed reading. The 6-inch 300 ppi Paperwhite display offers a crisp, print-like experience, while the device's light weight (approximately 131–133 grams without the cover) makes it exceptionally portable. A key inclusion is the leather charging cover, designed to mitigate the small internal battery capacity. While offering great endurance with the charging cover attached—capable of roughly 20,000 page turns—the Oasis faces criticism for its high price and reliance on that cover for longevity. The 2016 model lacks the water resistance found in later models and relies on micro-USB instead of modern USB-C. Despite these limitations, it is considered a premium, ergonomic choice for dedicated readers.

The Amazon Kindle Oasis is positioned as a premium e-reader, featuring an ergonomic, asymmetrical aluminum design with physical page-turn buttons and a 7-inch 300 PPI display with adjustable warm light. It is IPX8 waterproof, supports Audible via Bluetooth, and includes an accelerometer for automatic screen rotation, making it ideal for comfortable, long-term, one-handed reading. However, the device's main drawback is its high price point, which is roughly double that of the Kindle Paperwhite for similar core functionality. While the metal build feels luxurious, it can be slippery, and the reliance on a micro-USB port, rather than USB-C, is considered outdated. Ultimately deemed a luxury, the Oasis prioritizes superior screen technology and build quality over value. Potential downsides include a wider, less pocketable shape and a shorter battery life compared to other Kindle models when using the high-end display settings. For more details, visit Six Colors.

The Kindle Oasis features an asymmetrical ergonomic design with a high-quality aluminum chassis, a 7-inch 300 PPI display, physical page-turn buttons, and a warm light filter. Pros include superior one-handed handling and excellent display quality, though cons involve a high price point, slippery aluminum body, and reduced portability due to its unique shape. The review concludes it is a premium, niche device for enthusiasts rather than a value-driven option.

The Kindle Oasis is positioned as a premium e-reader characterized by its ergonomic, asymmetrical aluminum design with physical page-turn buttons, a 7-inch 300 PPI display, and an accelerometer for automatic screen rotation. Key improvements in later models include IPX8 water resistance, adjustable warm light, and Bluetooth support for Audible audiobooks. While offering a top-tier reading experience, the review highlights the high cost, continued use of micro-USB, and average battery life as notable drawbacks. The analysis concludes that the device is a luxury option best suited for avid readers, while the Kindle Paperwhite offers better value for most users.

The Stern.de review highlights the 2016 Kindle Oasis as a premium, lightweight e-reader featuring an ergonomic, asymmetrical design with a "hump" for comfortable one-handed reading. Key pros include the high-quality 300 PPI display and physical page-turn buttons, though this 2016 model relies on a dual-battery system with a charging cover to maintain its thin profile. Conversely, the primary cons are the high price point—hard to justify against cheaper models like the Kindle Paperwhite—and the lack of features found on older models, such as ambient light sensors.
