Reviews last updated: July 2026 · How we calculate this

What we like about Tokina atx-m 33mm F 1 4 X

  • High build quality with a predominantly metal barrel and lens hood
  • Fast and quiet autofocus performance using a stepping motor (STM)
  • Excellent center sharpness, even when shooting wide open at f/1.4
  • Compact and lightweight design, weighing only 285g
  • Pleasing, creamy bokeh quality due to the 9-blade rounded aperture
  • De-clicked aperture ring, which is highly beneficial for video recording
  • Minimal focus breathing, making it suitable for videography

What we don't like about Tokina atx-m 33mm F 1 4 X

  • Lack of weather or dust-proof sealing
  • Noticeable longitudinal chromatic aberration (fringing) in high-contrast areas
  • Significant vignetting and softness in the corners at wider apertures
  • Prone to heavy ghosting and lens flare in challenging lighting
  • No built-in lens correction profiles for automatic distortion and vignetting fixes
  • Clickless aperture ring can be easily bumped from its setting accidentally
  • Higher price point compared to its nearly identical counterpart, the Viltrox 33mm f/1.4

Verdict

The Tokina atx-m 33mm f/1.4 X is a compact, 285g standard prime lens designed for Fujifilm X-mount APS-C cameras, providing a 50mm full-frame equivalent focal length. It features a bright f/1.4 maximum aperture, a 9-blade rounded diaphragm for creamy bokeh, and a fast, silent ST-M autofocus motor with internal focusing and a 0.4m minimum focus distance. Its premium build includes an all-metal barrel and a de-clicked aperture ring tailored for hybrid photo and video use. Main pros include its lightweight portability, high-quality metal construction, and strong central sharpness even at wide apertures. However, notable cons include the lack of weather sealing, visible chromatic aberration (fringing), and softer performance in the outer image corners when shooting wide open.
